• The deal to acquire Tribune Media by Sinclair Broadcast Group for a reported $4 billion ( $45 a share), is almost complete according to several reports. Tribune Media is the TV arm of the Chicago based media company, no longer affiliated with tronc, formerly Trib publishing.
 
• James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence under Obama, and Sally Yates, who was Deputy Attorney General, will testify to the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on crime and terrorism today. According to Reuters, “Yates is expected to tell the senators that on Jan. 26, when she was acting Attorney General, she had warned White House Counsel Don McGahn that then-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had not told the truth about conversations he had with Sergei Kislyak, Moscow’s Ambassador to Washington, about U.S. economic sanctions on Russia.”

• The MTV Movie & TV awards got off to a soggy start after rain and hail took over the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Winners of the night included: Chicago’s own Lil Rel Howery, Taraji P. Henson, Emma Watson, Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome, Daniel Kaluuya, Black-ish.

• Coach is buying Kate Spade brand for a reported $2.4 billion or $18.50/share cash, a 27.5% percent premium to the unaffected closing price of Kate Spade’s shares as of December 27, 2016, the last trading day prior to media speculation of a transaction, according to recently released presser. According to the release, the acquisition will create the first NY based house of modern luxury lifestyle brand as Coach eyes growth on the millennial market. In other fashion news, Christian Dior announced it’s 2018 Cruise collection show on May 11 will take place in Santa Monica at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve; the first time a fashion show will be held at the venue.
