Harvey. Hurricane Harvey’s coming and its gaining strength as it approaches the Texas coast and New Orleans area. The National Hurricane Center says its expected to drop as much as 35 inches of rain and usher in “life-threatening” storm-surge flooding upon landfall late Friday or early Saturday. Harvey, now a Category 2 hurricane, is on track to strengthen to Category 3, with winds of at least 111 mph by the time it makes landfall. • The lineup for the upcoming 2017 Chicago Gourmet has been announced and everyone from Siena Tavern’s Fabio Viviani, Sarah Gruenberg, Tony Mantuano, Rick Bayless will be in attendance. In other Chicago news, police are trying to determine if a recent rash of robberies are connected. A 73-year-old man was shot on the city’s Southwest Side in the same style of three robberies that took place in Hammond, Ind.
• Two new reports are monitoring apps that 18- to 34-year-olds are utilizing. In a new eMarketer report, millennials are not really using Facebook meanwhile it increased its projection for the number of people using Snapchat on a monthly basis in the USA this year, forecasting it will grow 25.8 percent to 79.2 million. The other report, comScore’s 2017 US Mobile App Report, shows that Amazon ranks as the top essential app that age group cannot go without; meanwhile Snapchat is left off that list though Facebook and Instagram were included.
• Jay Y. Lee, the 49-year-old heir to the Samsung empire has been given a five year sentence for bribery in the scandal that rocked top levels in South Korea and took down the former president Park Geun-hye. A court ruled that Lee had paid bribes in anticipation of favours from Park and also found Lee guilty of hiding assets abroad, embezzlement and perjury.

• Goop’s is not getting the love from advertising watchdog organization TINA.org (Truth in Advertising). TINA’s filed 2 complaints against GOOP with two California district attorneys after an investigation revealed that the lifestyle company Goop is making deceptive health claims to promote products featured on the site. According to the report from Hollywood Reporter, The group argues that Goop “does not possess the competent and reliable scientific evidence required by law to make such claims.”
• Taylor Swift is making a comeback and trying to snatch wigs in the process. Swift, who has been laying low for the past year, released a new single “Look What You Made Me Do” and some are speculating she is taking shots at the whole Kanye West-Kim Kardashian drama as well as her ongoing feud with Katy Perry. She might make a big debut at this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.

• Former J Crew chief Mickey Drexler has joined four year old startup, Outdoor Voices as chairman of the board and has been working closely on product, merchandising. Of note as Racked reports is the fact that as a fashion startup, Outdoor Voices raised $22.5 million in funding from venture capital firms and, most recently, Drexler. He led a $9 million investment round that also included Walter Robb, the former CEO of Whole Foods. Lady Gaga’s role at Tiffany’s is paying dividends as the company’s sales have exceeded estimates in certain markets and fueling demand for new designs.
