Last Thursday(4/18), barring torrential rain and flooding, the show went on. The Preview of the 13th annual Chicago Botanic Garden’s Antique & Garden Fair welcomed 600 guests and raised $250,000 for the Chicago Botanic Garden’s conservation, education and research programs. The Preview Evening was co-chaired by Kimberly and Randy Burt, Peggy and Jack Crowe, Kathy and Chris Deveny, and Kate and J.T. Fitzgerald.
Honorary Chair Michael S. Smith(who was appointed in 2010 by President Obama to the Committee for the Preservation of the White House) and one of the most original and respected talents in the design industry was also in attendance and was joined by guests (this was quite the power guest list may we add) that included Meredith Wood Prince, Karen Krehbiel, Jenny Brown, Trish Rooney Alden, Louise & Steve Eisen, M.K Pritzker, Amy Brock, Chris McComish(Harris Bank), Karin Larkins, Stephanie Hanry, Erin Connelly, Fanee Haleas, Jennifer Janowiak, Rick and Cathy Waddell, Bill Kurtis and Donna LaPietra and many more. Some of the guests were seen with their own The Scout Guide (What’s the scout guide you ask? you’ll be hearign & seeing more of it soon). space519-Lance Lawson and Jim Wetzel’s refined general store which stocks some of the coolest, chicest and best wares in the city was also on hand with some of their merchandise. William Heffernan, whom we here at SLC had the pleasure of interviewing HERE served as artistic director of the Antique & Garden Fair show. BMO Harris was the principal sponsor of the event.

The Theme “Color in the Garden: An Artist’s View,” included indoor display gardens interpreted by Craig Bergmann Landscape Design, Inc., William Heffernan Landscapes, Mariani Landscape,The Organic Gardener, and Maria Smithburg with Manfredini Landscaping & Design.
The weekend of events featured a SOLD OUT lecture by the events Honorary chair Michael S. Smith and a book signing of his new book, Lecture by Charles Stick-renowned landscape designer and one of the country’s leading classicists. The Style Blogger panel-“Living with Color: Style Bloggers’ Musings on Super-Chic Living” was presented on Saturday and featured The Peak of Chic’s Jennifer Boles, Stylebeat’s Marisa Marcantonio, and design historian Emily Evans Eerdmans with Julia Reed moderating. The weekend closed out with a lecture by Jeanne Pinsof Nolan– founder of The Organic Gardener. She designed, installed, and maintains the Edible Gardens, a 5,000-square-foot vegetable garden for children at the Lincoln Park Zoo.
