From Friday through Sunday, we know you don’t even want to think about work but rather looking for a fun distraction to occupy your weekend in the city, help is here. Whether you want to explore new haunts in Chicago, relax, take in a festival, or have a night out on the town that’ll make your snapchat and insta stories followers green with envy, here’s what to get into this weekend. It’s #summertimeChi so there’s a lot taking place this weekend but these are the recommended ones for  you to go either solo or with a group for a good time. Friday June 21 – Country Lakeshake Festival, Chicago’s 3 Day Country Music Festival Country is back. The 5th year of this country music weekend fest is upon us and some tickets are still available. The acts scheduled to perform include Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Cassadee Pope, to name a few. Lake Shake Festival Chicago will take place at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island from June 21-June 23

Now that Navy Pier’s Offshore rooftop, named THE largest rooftop, is officially open, any reason to make it down there you need to. Lucky for you this weekend, the Pier will host the second Chi-Soul Fest. In honor of Black Music Appreciation Month, the Chicago Soul Music Festival free presentation Friday and Saturday features a lineup of Chicago soul music reflecting its past, present and future.

What did we do before the Riverwalk? The beautiful addition to our downtown will sound even better Friday when the acclaimed Yo Yo Ma takes centerstage along with Civic Orchestra musicians for a performance of Bach’s Fourth Brandenburg Concerto. Classical music fans are definitely in for a treat at this free event. It starts at 5pm at the Chicago River Walk — between Franklin and Lake. Stick around and grab at drink at the Tiny Tapp after, fun crowd.

 

The Old St Pats Block Party 2019 has been dubbed the “World’s largest block party” idk about all that but its a fun time nonetheless. As a young Chicagoan, I attended this thinking surely I would meet a special someone since that was the attracting factor, listen if you go there for that reason only, you will be sorely disappointed like when that cutie left you on read forever. Get a group together and have some fun or heck make that your solo adventure of the week and be open to the good vibes the universe wants to bring you.


Ruido Fest, Chicago’s newest alternative latin music festival is set to take place at Union Park from June 21-23. Celebrating its fifth edition, the music festival which has majority Latin alt roster, will play this new venue moving from Addams/Medill Park. One of the weekend’s highlights according to a report, will be rock en español legendary band El Tri who will sing for the first time in its entirety their gold-certified 1985 record Simplemente, and pop/rock veterans Enanitos Verdes and Hombres G who will perform the final show of their Huevos Revueltos Tour at Ruido. Tickets starting at $85 for single day GA and $190 for 3 day GA are still available.

Saturday June 22 – The 19th annual Chicago Pride Fest will kick off part 1 of 2 of Chicago’s pride celebrations. The two-day festival taking place June 22 & 23 on the weekend leading up to the Chicago Pride Parade, will have live music performances like Betty Who, Leann Rimes, vendors, DJ’s and dancing, drag shows, pet parade, and so much more. Its all taking place in Chicago’s Boystown neighborhood on Halsted Street from Addison to Grace St. $10 donation for entry is suggested.

The Silver Room’s annual Sound System Block Party is but a few weeks away (mark your calendar July 20 and donate) but before then, they’re hosting an all day party pop-up “Alive + Well” at their Wicker Park location (1302 N. Milwaukee Avenue). The event is free to attend but shopping is highly recommended. Come for the vibe stay for music, food drinks and such from the over 20 vendors that will be participating.

I once tried Beyoncé’s Vegan diet and after 5 days, I realized it wasn’t for me but I did enjoy eating some of the meals and finding ways to sneak it into my meat loving lifestyle. For those that are all in to the vegan lifestyle, this fest is for you. The Vegandale Food.Drink  festival will be at Grant Park’s Butler field from 11am-7pm Saturday June 22 Rain or shine. Tickets to attend are $15 and available at entrance. Yes! Everything sold on-site – food, drink and merchandise – is 100% vegan.

National Rosé Day on June 8 might have come and gone but when its summer, its Rosé Day everyday. Afrobeats, the infectious sounds hailing from West Africa that fuses traditional Nigerian music, Highlife, along with Jazz, and Funk, has been filling the airwaves stateside and its so refreshing to hear. Come get a good dose of that and more at the Passport Vibes: Afrobeat Street Festival taking place The Promontory (5311 South Lake Park Avenue West) on Saturday from 12pm-9pm. Music from Dee Money, Kwest-On, Rae Chardonnay Bonsu and more will be sure to make it feel like you are back in the motherland of West Africa.

Chicago Food Truck Festival
Another edition of the gathering of the top food trucks around is up us. Foodies, newbies and all in between are invited to the South Loop where 45+ gourmet food trucks will gather for a foodie heaven of tasting chef prepared dishes and delighting the palate with a splash of Sangria or some America’s Beer Capital’s Best Beers. Also, did we mention games and live music? Its taking place Saturday June 22 and Sunday June 23 at South Loop Green Space (2400 S. State Street).

Sunday June 23 – Still hungry for more food? Check out the Chicago Jerk and Seafood Music Festival coming to Washington Park on Sunday. Caribbean acts Aidonia, Stone Bwoy, Destra, Mad Cobra and more are scheduled to perform.
