City Hall Opens in West Loop
A new restaurant, bar and event space is set to open its doors to diners starting June 21 at 6:30pm. City Hall, no not where the new Mayor Lightfoot’s office is, but this one coming in at 18,000 sq.ft of mute-use space is helmed in the kitchen by chef Michael Taus, GM Andrew Ketcham, an Atomic Hospitality, Ham Hospitality and 8 Hospitality collaboration. We know Chicagoans love their outdoor dining and City Hall will open their patio in the upcoming weeks after opening day. The opening weekend celebration will host a live band and DJ. DJ Greg Corner, well-known in political circles as ‘The President’s DJ,’ from when he was invited to DJ President Barack Obama’s 50th birthday party at Aragon Ballroom in August 2011 will be on hand and so will Creedence Revived, “widely considered to be the world’s premier Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band.” City Hall is located at 838 W. Kinzie St.
Rick Bayless Partners With Honey Butter Fried Chicken
James Beard Award winning chef and restaurateur Rick Bayless is partnering with Chefs Josh Kulp and Christine Cikowski for the latest Clucker collaboration to come out of Honey Butter Fried Chicken (3361 N. Elston Avenue). Their creation is called The Oaxacan Fire Chicken Sandwich and it features Honey Butter’s signature fried chicken strips in a smoky Chintextle aioli sauce, topped with escabeche slaw, and agave and will ONLY be available from June 18 – 23. Portion of funds from the sale of the collaboration sandwich will benefit Bayless’ nonprofit The Frontera Farmer Foundation. Bayless drew inspiration from his love of Oaxacan cuisine for the sandwich.
Lost Larson Pop-up @ Space 519 The Lunchroom
Lost Larson, the critically loved highly acclaimed Andersonville bakery cafe that recently added wine and dinner service, is popping up within concept store SPACE 519 and The Lunchroom (200 East Chestnut) in the Gold Coast starting June 21 through the weekend. The temporary patisserie will feature a selection of Chef Bobby Schaffer’s signature artisan pastries, bread and baked goods, available from 8 a.m. to noon, Friday, June 21, through Sunday, June 23.
Spaggia is participating in Negroni Week (June 24 – 30) and they will be donating a portion of the proceeds from two negroni cocktails to No Kid Hungry. Imbibers can choose from:
– “Pomo Negroni” – made with Moletto tomato gin, Rinomato Bianco, and Foro dry vermouth
– “Noni-groni” – made with Nonino Vendemmia grappa, Carpano Antica vermouth and Campari.
The inspiration behind the Noni-groni was the Nonino’s recent visit to Spiaggia! The Pomo Negroni is simply the delicious impressive new tomato gin from Moletto.
Roka Akor & Stefani Prime “Frutti di Mare O Niku”
The executive Chefs at Roka Akor and Stefani Prime are teaming up on June 27 for “Frutti di Mare O Niku.” Frutti di Mare is seafood in Italian and O Niku is seafood in Japanese.
The dinner will blend Japanese cuisine into a brilliant five-course tasting menu paired with spirits and wines from both regions. The first of two collaborative dinners between the restaurants will be hosted at Roka Akor.

Replay Lincoln Park SpongeBob SquarePants Pop-Up
Replay Lincoln Park is bringing one of our favorite childhood heroes SpongeBob SquarePants, to their latest pop-Up beginning June 21. The bar will be transformed into The Salty Spitoon, the roughest, toughest sailor club ever to be built in Bikini Bottom, for a new SpongeBob SquarePants pop-up this summer. Beginning Friday, June 21 guests are invited to hang with all of SpongeBob’s underwater pals on Conch St. at Patrick’s Rock, Squidward’s Easter Island Head, SpongeBob’s two-story Pineapple, Mrs. Puff’s Boating School, the Krusty Krab and more! The pop-up will feature unique art installations by local artists for photo-ops aplenty, real Krabby Patties and an extensive specialty cocktail menu, including Sandy’s Helmet, which will be served in a fishbowl and Chum Bucket, served in a bucket like its namesake. Throughout the duration of the pop-up, SpongeBob fans may enjoy a Bubble Bowl halftime show concert, a ‘how tough are ya’ contest, weekly late-night jellyfish raves, karaoke, jellyfish hunting at Jellyfish Fields and an honest to goodness Imagination Box.

Jake Melnick’s Partners with FEW Spirits
Chicago area top distiller FEW is set to release a special single-barrel whiskey and it will be exclusive to Jake Melnick’s, the Gold coast spot. The small-batch offers rich flavors of toffee, clove, and caramel, with a light chocolate finish, and will be available for a limited-time-only.
I|O Godfrey Summer Garden Party
I|O Godfrey,The Godfrey Hotel Chicago’s rooftop restaurant and lounge second Garden Party will take place on Saturday June 29. Guests and locals are invited to kick-off summer at the indoor|outdoor rooftop lounge his kick-off to the summer season encourages guests to wear their summer best while enjoying sweeping views of the city, lawn games on the rooftop’s outdoor portico, and grill stations serving summertime classics. Each Garden Party ticket includes one Botanical Spritz cocktail which guests can customize from an assortment of flavors. Guests can also choose from a variety of seasonal dishes and drinks, such as a boozy Blueberry Mania Push-Pop, on I|O Godfrey’s menu.

Kinton Ramen MEGA RAMEN challenge
Kinton Ramen the international Japanese ramen brand, is bringing its famous MEGA RAMEN challenge stateside to the growing brand’s first U.S. location in Chicago’s Fulton Market. The MEGA RAMEN challenge has grown to viral popularity across Canada, drawing a following from people of all ages to participate in the hunger-satisfying event.
Now for the challenge: participants (must be +18) and have 15 minutes to finish an entire bowl of Mega Ramen. Successful challengers who finish the entire bowl will receive a MEGA RAMEN diploma, a Kinton t-shirt and of course a delicious bowl of ramen for free. Those who are unable to complete the challenge will pay for the bowl of ramen ($35).
Mega Ramen really lives up to its name; the bowl consists of 19 pieces of pork belly, 3 servings of bean sprouts, 3 servings of thick noodles, 2 servings of Nori and topped off with scallions and a seasoned egg.
Set your timer because 15 minutes goes quickly. Participants may not leave their seats during the competition. “Completion” means nothing left in the bowl, down to the last, delicious drop. Four challengers can compete at one time and guests are welcome to join the Fulton Market location to watch all the action and cheer on the challengers.

Jacee Coelho from Travelle at The Langham has been named one of five US finalists who will compete in the international cocktail competition 10 Year Switch on July 31st in New York City.her cocktail entry, Pure Berry. Five leading mixologists, including one from Chicago, have been named U.S. finalists in Caorunn Gin’s international cocktail competition, the 10 Year Switch. The winning U.S. bartender will have an opportunity to switch countries with their winning U.K. counterpart and work guest shifts a top bar to experience British cocktail culture firsthand.
Pure Berry for Caorunn Gin’s 10 Year Switch
1 ½ oz. Caorunn Gin
¾ oz. vanilla syrup
½ oz. lemon juice
3 large blackberries
1 egg white
Muddle the blackberries in vanilla syrup. Build ingredients dry in a shaker. Add 1-inch cubed ice and double shake with the egg white. Double strain into a coupe glass.

The champions will also receive the honor of having their 10 Year Switch cocktail named as Caorunn’s signature serve in bars across their respective country.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot visited SX Sky Bar, the lounge atop the newly opened Hotel Essex Chicago taking in views of Grant Park at a table near the space’s floor-to-ceiling retractable windows, Mayor Lightfoot enjoyed a glass of wine, the Kentucky Fried Cauliflower, and Pork Belly Lettuce Wraps from the SX Sky Bar menu.
A new restaurant is coming to the South Loop’s Roosevelt Collection Shops in 2020. Chef Chad Rosenthal (Food Network Star: Seasons 9 and 10, Chopped Grill Masters) is bringing The Lucky Well, a Pennsylvania concept known for its Memphis-style dry-rub meats, to Chicagoans. The Lucky Well will focus on delicious barbecue, top-shelf whiskey and classic craft cocktails, and a live blues atmosphere. No word on where exactly within the shopping complex this restaurant will be but we think it might be in the space vacated by short lived Mago grill but according to the statement, “Rosenthal and Roosevelt Collection are working together to create a brand-new expanded space for this unique concept.”
