We’re currently all operating in unprecedented times over here, what with many of us bound in our homes due to Stay-At-Home orders to help relieve the overwhelming demand on the healthcare system and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, the global epidemic that’s claimed over 50,000 lives globally and made the first quarter of 2020 feel like we’ve been through the whole year. As many of your eating this you are either living in a city/state that’s enforced lockdown or for safety reasons you are voluntarily self isolating and you might be just at your wits end. Though some people turn to working out, meditation, yoga, and what not to find some escape, not gonna lie, in times of turmoil, I turn to sweet treats. Cupcakes, cake slices, pastries, you name it, I love it and though my ever expanding waistline does not, you know what its ok. If you’re like me, looking for a sweet treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, soothe your soul or looking to brighten someone’s day, check out our curated list of some of Chicago’s best sweet treats shops available for delivery, pickup.
Fluffy, decadent, delicious and fresh! Thank goodness Firecakes is still slinging their sweet treats and to add the proverbial icing on the cake, their donut truck “Billy” is delivering sweetness to certain neighborhoods around town. You can make your order for pickup or delivery at their River North, Oak Park or Lincoln Park locations which are open from 7am through 2pm. Click to order.
Jeni’s Ice Cream @jenisicecreams
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams might have their doors closed to dine in customers but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the delicious ice-cream with dairy and non-dairy flavors in the comfort of your home or work. In light of recent events, they are introducing a new “Social Distancing” Collection, available via local delivery at neighborhood scoop shop. Not within the local same day delivery radius, you can still order via their website and have it delivered via Fedex. With the days all basically feeling the same, no one really knows what day it is anymore so you might as well make everyday a Sundae with the Build Your Own Sundae Collection. Click to order.
Kristoffer’s Cafe & Bakery
Did someone say Tres Leches?! The long standing Pilsen/Bridgeport bakery is known for their delicious, and I mean DEEELICIOUS Tres leches cakes, flan, chocoflan and so much more. You can order slices or get a whole cake (pre-order). Order via UberEats, Grubhub, Doordash, Chownow or place a pickup order at their storefront located at 1733 S Halsted Street Chicago 60608 by calling (773) 801-1831.
Baker Miller Bakery & Millhouse @bakermillerchi
Lincoln Square’s Baker Miller (4655 N Lincoln Avenue Chicago 60625) opened in 2014 as a place to sit and eat, had to make a quick switch and pivot as the industry was upended due to coronavirus precautions, from its quant dine-in service to curbside/pickups but the baked goods and sweet treats have remained the same, albeit a reduced menu of options. The bakery-café from former Bang Bang Pie husband and wife duo Dave and Megan Miller is serving up fresh bread daily (until sold out), specials like a take & bake sourdough cinnamon rolls PLUS breakfast all day (til close- 2:30pm). Not only are they delivering in the sweet treats department, they’re also spreading joy by encouraging their customers to make donations for meals delivered to healthcare workers and shelter residents. Please do note they are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Click to order.
Stans Donuts @stansdonutschicago
I love Nutella stuffed donuts and I cannot lie. I have stanned Stans Donuts ever since the concept between Chicago’s Labriola bakery and LA’s Stan Berman’s Stan’s Donuts first opened its doors in the Chicago area in 2014 (Wicker Park). They’ve expanded locations to different neighborhoods in the city since then and their offerings still hit.the.sweet.spot. From their standard to dough boys best donuts, to cookies and more, Stans Donuts will sort you right, if its a sweet treat to soothe the soul. Click to order.
Lost Larson @lostlarson
Andersonville’s buzzy bakery and cafe is adapting to the new climate of the industry offering their baked good via contactless pick up from 9am-12pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays; delivery is available for orders over $75. Guests are urged to make pre-orders for pickup/delivery Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays through their website. Favorites including their Almond Croissant, muffins, almond cake, cardamom bun and more to order, based on availability. Click to order.

If you’ve never had a piece, or maybe a whole cake (we don’t judge) from Bittersweet, you are truly missing out but it doesn’t have to remain that way. A gem in the city serving some delicious scones, cookies, quiches, brownie boxes, and even their cake of the month (based on availability) and bake at home treats. Bittersweet also offers delicious customizable special events cakes. They are open daily til about 2pm and you can order their freshly baked bread, individual desserts and sweet treats for delivery or sidewalk pickup. Click here to order.
Bent Fork Bakery @bentforkbakery
North suburb based Bent Fork has some truly made from scratch small batch desserts like cookies, pies, blondies and more for your sweet tooth. The bakery is also stocking Chicago Mike’s Ice cream during this time, which should pair perfectly with their new batch of cookies this week with a picture of Mayor Lori Lightfoot, to drive home the #stayhome plea. Click to order.
Sweet Mandy B’s @sweetmandybs
This place is worth all the pretty and delectable pictures on their instagram feed but that does not compare to how delicious these sweet treats are IRL. Though their Lincoln Park location is not open or serving up sweet treats, their new Streeterville location’s serving all the rice krispies, cupcakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cakes, that will satisfy your sweet tooth. Click to order.
