• Ald. Willie Cochran is under federal investigation for alleged misuse of political campaign funds reports Sun Times.  Records show Cochran paid himself more than $115,000 from his campaign fund over a three-year span though Illinois law does not prohibit politicians from taking money from their campaign funds for personal use if the payments are “for services actually rendered.”

• The New York Times has appointed Arthur Gregg Sulzberger, as deputy publisher making him the fifth generation member of the Sulzberger family in the role. He is being positioned to eventually succeed his father as publisher and chairman of The New York Times Company. 

• The Obama’s went out with a bang at their last state dinner in the White House. Welcoming Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, clad in Giorgio Armani and his wife Agnese Landini dressed in Ermanno Scervino, First lady Michelle Obama was the “bella of the ball” in rose gold chain mail custom Atelier Versace. Chef Mario Batali along with the White House staff served guests including Chicago’s own Chancellor Bennett aka Chance the Rapper who attended with his dad Kenneth Bennett, Mario Andretti and Barbra Andretti-Curto, Chris Cuomo and Sandra Lee, Nancy and Paul Pelosi to name a few, a Italian themed four course dinner. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were the evenings performers.

ENTERTAINMENT

• Khloe Kardashian launched her new denim line, Good American, at a Los Angeles Nordstrom with her momager Kris Jenner by her side. The jean collection offers sizes 0 to 24 with price point below $200. The brand features 22 models including Jordyn Woods, Gabi Fresh.

• Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story, whose first season The People v. O.J. Simpson cleaned up at the Emmys has announced its third story and it has a Chicago connection. The murder of Gianni Versace will be the subject of the third season of American Crime Story. Season two will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The third series is reportedly based on the book Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace and the Largest Failed Manhunt in the US History, by Maureen Orth. Cunanan killed Chicago real estate Tycoon Lee Miglin.

FASHION

• Winnetka native John O’Donnell’s men’s lifestyle brand Johnnie-O has added Chris Knott as its chief merchandising officer. Knott, who retired in 2015 was the founder of luxury brand Peter Millar.
