April is one of those odd months this year where there’s no glimmer of hope for a precious 3-day weekend. But, that doesn’t mean it have its share of food holiday. April 2nd is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, and in honor of this extra important day, we’ve pulled together 5 Chicago restaurants that have put their own unique twist on the classic PB&J. If you weren’t in the mood for a PB&J before you read this, you sure will be after.

Firecake’s created the Peanut Butter and Jelly seasonal specialty doughnut just in time for this all-important holiday. If you’re feeling extra generous, buy them for your coworkers too! Or, if you’re anything like me, take them for yourself and RUN!

You might have missed spotting Jon Bon Jovi dining at the Gold Coast  mainstay  before his concert at United Center but you won’t want to miss this one day special.  For those of you like a little protein with your Peanut Butter and Jelly: on April 2, Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap will offer their famous PB & J Wings at half-price. The wing features Thai Peanut Butter with a Raspberry Chipotle Jelly.

Thing to order: Elveez Cuban Sandwich
This fun take on PB&J is for the adventurous eater, Cuban restaurant Cafecito combines sweet plantains with guava jam and peanut butter in a truly decadent sandwich. As far as beverages, do not miss their renowned cortadito coffee. If you’re looking for something a little stronger, all Cafecito restaurants are either BYOB or have a stocked bar.

The perfect dessert for all of us that love salty and sweet- and not just to eat during National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day! West Loop’s BellyQ dessert is soft serve ice cream, smothered in jam and topped with peanut butter crunch.

If you’re looking to go the old fashioned route and celebrate with just a plain ol’ PB&J, Elaine’s Coffee Call is the way to go. Not only is the café itself adorable, but Elaine’s Coffee Call has one of the best PB&J’s in Lincoln Park. Honey wheat bread spread with a luscious layer of pecan butter on one piece of bread and blueberry raspberry jam on the other, this sandwich is perfect to celebrate the holiday while satisfying your PB&J cravings.
