VELVET is a new Chicago based web series that’s set to premiere its first season at the Chicago International TV Festival on March 20 followed by a series launch on March 28. Velvet follows the budding friendship of Demetra (Gail Bean of Unexpected, Insecure, and Atlanta: Robbin’ Season) and Cymone (Black Theatre Alliance Award-nominated BrittneyLove Smith), two very different young women who work together at a minority-owned financial firm. As their worlds and friend groups collide to form a brand new #squad, these five young Chicagoans begin to reevaluate their own identities as well as their relationships to each other.

VELVET is based on the personal experiences and backgrounds of five of its creators: Allie Dunn, Tyla Landry, Clifton Lyons, Dru Greenwood, and Sydney Levison. They brought in their mutual friends Leo Gilbert (a filmmaker) and Becky Schultz (a comedy writer and marketing manager for Chicago’s Music Box Films) as co-creators and producers to help bring their vision and ideas to life.
