A Fashionable Fete Friday night was what was experienced at the School of The Art Institute’s Fashion 2013 show and benefit WALK 2013 May 3 at millenium park. The event, presenting sponsor was Swarovski and MacLean-Fogg, brought our some local and international fashion heavy weights, philanthropic leaders of the city and a veritable mix of student designed fashions on the catwalk(more on that HERE). The evening began with a cocktail reception where guests such as Mickey Boardman of Paper Magazine, Josh Goldman of Ikram, Jill Dodds, Todd Kempton, Bob Faust, Nick Cave, Creatures of the Wind design duo Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters, Amy Creyer, Azeeza Kahn, Swarovski Chicago’s Nicole Green and Asst. Mgr John Allen, Factor Women owner Jane Stewart, Patric Chauvez all mingled amongst each other before Kate and Laura Mulleavy arrived. Once under the “tent” they took pictures with SAIC president Dr. Walter Massey, fellow honoree Melissa Sage Fadim and WALK 2013 Co-chair Roopa Weber who was wearing a fitting dress from past SAIC student designer Michael Walls. The sisters actually chatted up a few guests during the reception before we were all ushered to our seats for the show.
Following the show(HERE) it was off to Millenium park for dinner and dancing. This was also an opportunity for the student designers to walk around with a model wearing one of the pieces shown on the runway and chat up potential clients. Those in attendance included: Amy DuBois Barnett-Editor in Chief of Ebony Magazine, Peter Copping of Nina Ricci, Ikram and Josh Goldman (following the awesome NYTimes article), Quintin Primo, Beverly Kim, JKLS PR’s Lara Shipp Shiffman. Elle Magazine team of Anne Slowey, who was the emcee of the, Katie Crown, Alison Cohn also came to the windy city for the event. There were a few ladies who definitely brought it with their fashion choices for the event including Zapwater VP Jenn Lake who looked stunning a Mary Katrantzou dress and Brian Atwood Clutch and Laudi Vidni CEO Laura Kofoid to name a few. Maybelline also provided mini makeover sessions but the hit of the night(in my opinion) was the sushi station from of Anna’s Asian Bistro (Lake & Halsted), who said fashion people didn’t eat?! Guests also included: Michael Corrigan and Stephanie Poquette of Zapwater, Amy Tara Koch, Adrienne Samuels Gibbs, Maya Camille Broussard, Mitzi Miller, Emma Arnold, CS’s Ally Cooke, Roslyn Boutique owner Roslyn Clayton
WALK 2013 was a culmination of all the hard work the students put in and also a fundraiser to continue supporting an institution like the School of the Art Institute Chicago that has produced such respected and accomplished designers like Halston, Cynthia Rowley to name a few.
Kudos to all who was involved in makign this another successful one to benefit the taleneted SAIC students especially the CFA Team!
