Tome Tuesday: The Ghost That Come Between Us

Dr. Bulbul Bahuguna, a renowned psychiatrist and Board member of the American India Foundation recently released her debut novel “The Ghost that Come Between Us.” The book which deals with sexual abuse from the first hand perspective of the main character Nargis Yadav over the course of 45 years; it follows the travails of young Nargis Yadav as she suffers abuse at the hands of her father and grows of age as life takes her from post-Independence India, through Communist Russia and to a Chicago suburb where she settles as a triumphant but tormented adult.

During a book reading and reception event this past Sunday (5/19), Dr. Bahuguna was feted amongst close friends including Discovery Card President Harit Talwar who introduced her prior to the excerpt reading. Describing her as someone that epitomizes many multicultural layers, relationships and insights.

“I wrote Ghosts to shine a light on a shocking problem that too often lurks in the dark for reasons that are obvious, and one that horrifically ripples through the lives of not only sexual abuse victims but also those of their family members and others,”
Dr. Bahuguna, noted the 3 major issues people deal with are: Loss, Abuse, Coping.

After the excerpt reading, she fielded questions from guests in attendance including one that Rohini Dey of Vermillion restaurant asked what was the hardest part of the book writing journey? To which Dr. Bahuguna responded stealing time from family, friends, sleep, Making time when she’s already busy.
