TOME TUESDAY: ART & PLACE

Chicago's premium luxury lifestyle website covering fashion, beauty, events, culture,…
Art, though it’s a subjective term, is found everywhere. From the construction of skyscrapers, paintings/sculptures housed in museums to even crop fields and well places meadow land. The new book by Phaidon explores this theme all around. Art & Place presents compelling images from lighting captured on a stormy night in New Mexico, a spoon and cherry garden sculpture in Minnesota to some recognizable pieces here in Chicago.
There’s more than one Anish Kapoor piece in the book; aside from the recognized Cloud Gate aka The Bean, his sculpture-Untitled (Mountain)-in Simcoe Park (Toronto, Canada) was one of his first public pieces.
This book is different from other art books in that it really shows more than just just museum or famous art work. The way a highway is constructed is art, winding staircase, The Aspen Institute, The Getty Center and its garden .
Some of the Chicago public sculptures that made the book include: CLoud Gate, The Picasso in Daley Plaza, Chagall wall by Chase Tower, Calder’s Flamingo.
