The scoop: The restaurant above Chicago’s Barney’s New York, a haven for those weary shopping feet, ladies who lunch and brunch with the best kept cocktail secret in Chicago celebrated the launch of their new sunset menu- late afternoon snacks that pair perfectly with cocktails. The menu featured delicious items such as the Tuna Tartare, The Bugsy which is a fig, onion and blue cheese flatbread that pairs perfectly well. Vegan friendly options are aplenty on the menu including the Cashew “Cheese” Dip that tastes like hummus. The sunset menu is meant to be shared which is perfect for an after work catchup session on the patio or dinner with friends. You don’t need to have a special occasion to dine at Freds; it’s one of the best spot in town for drinks, nosh and people watching 😉

Event:Kate Betts My Paris Dream Book Signing

The scoop: Fashion journalist Kate Betts will host a book signing for her newly released memoir, My Paris Dream, which recounts Betts’ decision to move to Paris alone, in her young twenties, and her determination to break into the fashion industry. Betts, an award winning magazine editor, remains the youngest person ever to serve as Editor in Chief at Harper’s Bazaar and also held leadership positions at Vogue, including creating The Vogue Index section. She has written for over twenty publications and My Paris Dream is the author’s second book.

The scoop: The National Museum of Mexican Art, the only Latino museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, celebrated their Gala de Arte: El Sol y La Luna co-chaired by Trustees Jessica Estrella (Priego) and Yolanda Stemer honoring the Castro Family (the Honorable Julián Castro, Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-TX) and their mother, Ms. Maria del Rosario Castrowith) with the the Arthur R. Velasquez Award. The Gala’s Corporate Chair, Steve “Mac” MacLellan, President of the Central Region for Northern Trust’s Wealth Management.
Previous recipients of the Arthur R. Velasquez Award include Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Mayor Richard Daley, Norman Bobbins, Susan Crown, Frank Clark, Alejandro Silva, Terry Mazany and Emily Barr.

The scoop: National Louis University (NLU) recognized five alumni this week who have used their education to advance not only their lives, but also the lives of others, at the annual Reach Awards Gala. The 2015 Distinguished Reach Award recipients were: Evelyn Chenier, Ph.D., executive director, Family First Center of Lake County; Elizabeth Dozier, principal of Fenger High School, Chicago; Rebecca Estrada, senior director of Programs and Quality Assurance, Erie Neighborhood House; Josh Fine, graduate of the Professional Assistance Center for Education (P.A.C.E.) at NLU; Darrell Williams, chief, military personnel for Operations, Defense Information Systems Agency.
