The Art Institute of Chicago’s Leadership Advisory committee celebrated the opening of the new “Invisible Man—Gordon Parks and Ralph Ellison in Harlem” exhibit with a reception on May 20. The evening included a performance by the Congo Square Theatre followed by a lively conversation among Natalie Moore-WBEZ reporter and author; LaToya Ruby Frazier, photographer and recent MacArthur Fellow; and the exhibitions curator Michal Raz-Russo.Gordon Parks and Ralph Ellison are both recognized as major figures in American art and literature. Invisible Man: Gordon Parks and Ralph Ellison in Harlem will be on view at the Art Institute from May 21–August 28, 2016.
The exhibit in the Modern Wing of the Art Institute, offers an unprecedented look at the collaborative work of these esteemed figures in American art between 1948 and 1952.
