EVENT: Conversation Marcus Samuelsson and Dawoud Bey

What: Celebrated chef Marcus Samuelsson returns to the Art Institute of Chicago, joining photographer Dawoud Bey and curator Alison Fisher for a discussion of the changing social and cultural landscape in Harlem.

WHY: This conversation is part of programming surrounding the exhibition, The City Lost and Found: Capturing New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, 1960–1980. Following the event in Rubloff Auditorium, guests attending the reception will have an opportunity to sample mouthwatering offerings from Samuelsson’s worldly repertoire.

EVENT: Chicago Urban League 53rd Annual Golden Fellowship Dinner

What: Multitalented performer Vanessa Williams will lend her timeless vocals to the Chicago Urban League’s 53rd Annual Golden Fellowship Dinner. Hosted by Chicago funnyman Damon Williams

WHY: Opera legend and humanitarian Jessye Norman, one of the world’s most celebrated performing artists, will accept the Edwin C. “Bill” Berry Civil Rights Award at the dinner along with North Lawndale resident Clyde Ross, a civil rights and fair housing advocate and a founding member of the Contract Buyers League.

EVENT:  Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago’s Sixth Annual Champions for Children’s

What:   Taj Gibson (Chicago Bulls) and Charles “Peanut” Tillman (Chicago Bears) are among the Chicago sports teams, legends and current athletes who have will be in attendance for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago’s sixth annual Champions for Children’s event, presented by Play It Safe with Kohl’s.

Why:   Benefitting patients and their families, among the highlights is the presentation of the Champions for Children’s Award to the Chicago Bears organization in recognition of its longstanding support of the hospital.
Since 2009, Champions for Children’s has raised a total of $3.6 million for Lurie Children’s and the families it supports. All funds raised are used to enhance Lurie Children’s capacity to provide the very best medical treatment and compassionate care to every child and family in need.

 

EVENT:  Museum of Science and Industry’s Inaugural Fashion Forward

What:  The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) will present Fashion Forward, an evening benefit celebrating innovation and the future of design, as well as honor French blogger, photographer, illustrator and author Garance Doré.
