Hebru Brantley returns to The Silver Room for his second solo show with Gravity Is Too Expensive – Part II, opening Friday, November 9. The show will feature a full cast of Brantley’s characters in new paintings and sculptures, drawing influence from an array of pop culture icons, comic book heroes and story book characters. Brantley’s recent focus is to share energetic narratives—moments of
reality from his life and the lives of his peers, mixed with fantastical fiction. Spray paint is at the forefront of these mixed-media illustrations, working in part to de-contextualize the levity of cartoon imagery, and bring a critical edge into the white cube.

GEANCO Health & Hope For Africa Concert & Gala

November 10

The second annual Health and Hope for Africa Gala. Taking place on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 10pm at the historic Museum of Science and Industry, this year’s Gala will be chaired by NFL Hall of Famer and Chicago Bear legend Richard Dent. Proceeds from the evening directly benefit the foundation’s continuing effort to save and improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable in Africa.
The GEANCO Foundation began with a promise Dr. Godwin Onyema made to his father almost forty years ago as he prepared to leave Nigeria to begin his OB/GYN medical residency in the United States. He pledged to return home to build a hospital for his family and community. Godwin settled in Chicago, established a thirty-five year medical practice, and put his four children through Princeton, Harvard, Georgetown and Boston College. His children then devoted themselves to their father’s dream, and The GEANCO Foundation was born.
