Recently, I was out to brunch with one of my girlfriends at Nellcôte (The lobster hash=sooo good!). While catching up on everything that was going on in our lives, the conversation veered to the topic of what to do about the impending fall/winter famously referred to by single folks as “cuffing season.” Here’s the deal, summer in Chicago is the best time to be single, hands down. You are carefree, not too concerned about being single because there’s so much to do and many events in the city to soak up, everything is just fun! until….

While my friend and I were talking, the uber chic Mel Muoio happened to stop by our table and I approached her with this dilemma and that is where teh word came from. Mel coined it ” The Snuggle Scramble.” The Snuggle Scramble, you see, is the anxiety almost to a state of panic when you realize that the temperature is beginning to drop and you have no prospects for the fall or winter time. For those that are dating, married or attached this usually isn’t a big deal but for a single single girl(or guy) this is a situation. It is within our nature as humans to want to find comfort or solace with another human especially when its cold out and all you want to do is stay at home. You suddenly in September find yourself making rounds of phone calls, going to watch football games even though you can decipher 1st down from touchdown and maybe even signup for an intramural league just to field prospects. This is not to say that one is looking for a relationship but rather just someone to snuggle with, call up when your friends are busy or you know whatever. The snuggle scramble is real and I’m sure many people are already prepping for it. Lately i’ve seen a couple different tweets about “cuffing season applications” are now being accepted.
Here’s my two cents, while you’re out this weekend, make sure to keep your eye out for more than fall outfits and shoes because once the temps hits 60 you don’t want to find yourself panicking. Preparation is the key to success and applies to this scenario as well. SociaLifeChicago will do its part to help alleviate the snuggle scramble and anxiety that comes with it. In the coming weeks we will have some features around this subject so keep an eye out.
I would love to hear about your snuggle scramble stories.

I totally remember talking to you about this! Can’t wait to see what posts you have in store. Also, we need to plan our Antique Taco date! 🙂
