Don’t just scatter my ashes at Bergdorf’s, let’s go on a wild shopping spree before. A chic set of the social who’s who in Chicago gathered for an intimate screening last night(5/13). The W City Center Hotel carried us away, at least our taste for luxury shopping, into the world of Bergdorf Goodman by hosting the only Chicago pre-screening of the Matthew Miele directed film “Scatter my Ashes at Bergdorf’s” in theaters May 17. The film coincides with the 111th Anniversary of the storied luxury department store that has helped solidified the names and status of some of your favorite luxury designers past and present. Prior to the start of the movie, guests sipped on wine, beer and cocktails and nibbled on Garrett’s popcorn and Candyality sweets. Margaret O’Connor, Debi Lily and Jill Katz, were in deep conversation(perhaps plotting the next big event?). Toni and Rick Canada, Nina Mariano, Lynn and Dr. John MacMahan, Patrick Plante, Suntimes Splash EIC Susanna Negovan, Intersport’s Rebecca Besser, Annie Barlow, Maison PR’s Kimberly Burt were all chatting in another side of the room.
If your clothes are not in that place, then they have no future. There’s no future for those clothes, sorry-Isaac Mizrahi
Neiman Marcus Chicago’s team of General manager Wendy Krimins along with Public relations manager Tina Koegel, Brigg Kleinn, Linsday Ebeles, Susan Wyderka were all in attendance (The Neiman’s Group purchased Bergdorf Goodman in 1972).
No screening about fashion’s luxury mecca would be complete without the people that write about it such as ChiTownFashionista’s Nikia Jefferson, Coree Hamilton, Racked Chicago’s Jared Hatch, The Aeh list’s Kevin Aeh, ChiCity Fashion’s Jena Gambaccini, Eva Daiberl of Ms. Renaissance, Très Awesome’s Emma Arnold.
The Movie is definitely a MUST see whether you eat/live/breathe fashion or just appreciate a brand that’s managed to stay true it’s vision and clientele for so many years and through many financial fluctuations. Bergdorf Goodman makes you want to aspire to bigger things, well maybe not $400,000 on fur coats but big regardless. Guest appearances from the likes of Michael Kors-who tells an inspiring story about how he got his collection into Bergdorf’s, Bobbi Brown, Joan Rivers, Trish McEnvoy, Alber Elbaz,Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Narcisco Rodriguez, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabanna, DVF, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Kate & Laura Mulleavy,Iris Apfel and many more. Chicago’s own Toni Canada and Lynn McMahan also make an appearance in the film. If the fashion doesn’t get you excited, and I’m not sure why it wouldn’t, you get a look at the process in creating the 5 different window displays shown during the Holidays-AH.MAZE! Put on your Bergdorf’s best and catch the flick out May 17.
Scene stealer is Betty Halbreich who’s been a personal shopper at the store and a big revenue generator. When asked “What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?” she responded “drinking!” ha!
ps- you will live for a scene with Bergdorf Fashion Director Linda Fargo and a coat and hat(was it Belstaff?)
