Philanthropy Spotlight: NFTE Chicago

In a 2011 interview, billionaire and entrepreneur Ken Griffin was asked why NFTE was a worthwhile organization to receive his support to which his response was “The future of America will be built on the successes of young men and women still in their early years, and their willingness to start businesses. Job growth is driven by small and mid-sized businesses. NFTE teaches inner-city kids the tools they need to be successful entrepreneurs and provides the encouragement they need to complete the education, high school and college, required to be successful in today’s day and age.”

Entrepreneurship is the process of starting a business or other organization. The entrepreneur develops a business model, acquires the human and other required resources, and is fully responsible for its success or failure. Entrepreneurship operates within an entrepreneurship ecosystem.

A host of successful and established business men and women have lend their support to this organization that was founded by Steve Mariotti in 1987. NFTE was started  as a program to prevent high school dropouts and improve academic performance among at-risk urban students. Through their entrepreneurship education,  NFTE helps young people build entrepreneurial creativity and skills.
