Chicagoan Mariam Paré On Katie Couric Show

KATIE #2029 WITH TOM YENDELL AND MARIAM PARE

A disability is not a dis-ability. A disability only means a minor setback that one is able to overcome. It was great pleasure to get this good news in the inbox. Mouth and Foot painter Mariam Paré who hails from the Chicago area was recently (today 10/17) featured on the Katie Couric show. She shared her story on how she became as well as created a beautiful piece on the show.

I say good news because earlier this year Miriam had some of her  art works for sale at Art in Motion a fundraiser put on by the Associate Board of The Rehab Institute of Chicago.

I am excited to tell you that I am co-chairing Art In Motion in 2014 and I just can’t wait!
Being an Associate Board member of the Rehab Insttute of Chicago has been one of the most fulfilling experiences and continues to be. People like Mariam and the countless patients that have been taken care of at RIC are examples that their disability does not define them.

This is the first major fundraiser that I am co-chairing and all the proceeds we raise from it goes towards the RIC Art Therapy Program. The program is part of the hospital’s Therapeutic Recreation Department.

The great thing about Art In Motion is the some of the pieces created in the Art Program are for sale and on display during the event.
Congrats to Mariam and here’s to seeing many more like her being recognized for their talent!
