As the investigation into the Amtrak train that derailed in Philadelphia resulting in seven deaths continues, reports state the train was going 106 mph shortly before the crash, twice the limit for the section of curved track. The engineer behind the wheel Brandon Bostian has lawyered up and says he can’t remember but a blood sample to investigators. And in Capitol Hill, as Democratic lawmakers called for an increase in Amtrak funding, Republicans refused, defeating the request in a 30-to-21 vote. [USA TODAY]

The factory fire that killed 72 people in Valenzuela city, outside Manila has resulted in a criminal investigation by police. The two-story Kentex Manufacturing Corp. rubber slipper factory in the Philippines had iron grills reinforced with fencing wire covered windows on the second floor that may have made it hard for those inside to escape.
