OVER THE WEEKEND

Here are some of the headlines over the weekend… American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes becoming the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown finishing even faster than Secretariat…Kensington Palace released the first official picture of Princess Charlotte with a cameo from brother Prince George…Serena Williams beat Lucie Safarova to win the 2015 French Open making this her 20th Grand Slam title. Stan Warwinka beat favorite Novak Djokovic for the Men’s title….2 prisoners at a maximum facility in New York escaped using power tools and were possibly aided by a corrections officer…. Video of a McKinney Texas police officer Corporal Eric Casebolt pulling his gun on unarmed young black teenagers after a pool party melee, then grabbing by her hair and subduing a young bikini-clad girl to the ground with his knee. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay but many are calling for tougher actions….

CHICAGO NEWS

Four police officers-3 Chicago and one Glenview- have been charged with felony perjury for lying under oath in court during a drug case last year. Accounts of how 23-year-old Joseph Sperling, was pulled over and found with up to a pound of marijuana in his car after a police search, was refuted when Sperling’s attorney surprised prosecutors and officers with video of the traffic stop during the hearing. NATIONAL NEWS

A United Airlines plane carrying more than 70 people on board from Washington Dulles International Airport, skidded off a runway at Buffalo Niagara International Airport while landing and it may be due to strong winds. [NEWSDAY]


WORLD NEWS

Turkey is in the news this morning after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party, A.K.P, won the most seats but failed to win majority in Parliament in a historic election which means no party had won a mandate to govern alone. By law, Mr. Erdogan can call for new elections after 45 days if a coalition is not formed but this vote signifies the Kurdishs’ attempt to curtail Erdogan’s one-man rule. [NEW YORK TIMES]


SPORTS

The US Women’s Soccer team will take on Australia tonight as the 2015 Women’s Soccer World Cup gets underway. Golden State Warriors fell to the Cleveland Cavs in game 2 overtime. Hawks take on the Lightning at United Center. [ESPN]


BUSINESS

Deutsche Bank AG co-CEOs, Anshu Jain and Juergen Fitschen will be replaced by takeover specialist, former UBS CFO John Cryan as the sole CEO of Europe’s largest bank by assets. Cryan has been credited with helping reshape two of the world’s biggest banks. Jain will step down June 30 and Fitschen, next May. Shares of Deutsche Bank rose after the news was announced. ENTERTAINMENT

Is Blue Ivy going to get a sibling? Is Beyonce going on tour? Ahead of a Good Morning America appearance this morning, a teaser with the Queen B shows her saying ‘This is something I have to share with everyone!’ Beyonce and husband Jay Z have been reportedly working on a collaborative album exclusively for their Tidal music subscribers. Turns out its the secret to how she looks flawless, perhaps to help promote Marcus Borgess 22 day Vegan diet. [ABC NEWS]

• G-III Apparel Group, Ltd. and Karl Lagerfeld Group BV, the parent company of the Karl Lagerfeld global brand has reached a partnership to develop the iconic designer’s namesake brand in the North American market. Under the partnership, the Karl Lagerfeld mark will be used on all consumer products (except eyewear, fragrance, cosmetics, watches, jewelry, and hospitality services,) and apparel in the United States and Canada. The Tony Awards last night had some red carpet guests in attendance due to the influence of Vogue EIC Anna Wintour. The fashion community takeover included Bella Hadid in Prabal Gurung, Joan Smalls in Givenchy, Hilary Rhoda, Kendall Jenner dressed in Calvin Klein escorted by Francisco Costa, Jennifer Lopez in Valentino Couture, Emily Ratajkowski in Marc Jacobs.
