•200 hundred officers from 20 different agencies are on the scene in the 14700-block of Seely Avenue in Harvey and first day of school has been cancelled for Rosa Park Middle School. Two adults and two children held hostage. Responding to a burglary call, officers exchanged gunfire. “After the shootout, police said the suspects took eight people hostage” with three children being released. [ABC 7]
• The Uber for maid service? Need your place cleaned now? try the Wischen app, new android and soon to launch iphone app that connects you to a maid service on demand. DNAinfo’s Mark Konkol reports on the Chicago founded app that’s already taking off. [DNA INFO]

NATIONAL NEWS

•Late Tuesday, private car sharing service Uber announced the addition of David Plouffe to it’s team. Mr. Plouffe best known as the political strategist who was part of the team that ran President Obama’s 2008 campaign, plans “to run Uber’s communication efforts much like a political race, pushing to woo consumers and regulators alike in the company’s fast-paced expansion across the world.” The company has been facing regulators issues in the United States and overseas most notably with taxi companies and especially now with the expansion of their Uber-X program. WORLD NEWS

•James Wright Foley, the American freelance photo-journalist captured in Syria in 2012 was reportedly shown being beheaded by ISIS militants in a video titled “A Message To America.” Another writer Steven Sotloff, also appears at the end of the video. President Obama has yet to make a statement on the video pending it’s authenticity. [REUTERS]

SPORTS

•Mo’ne Davis! You better remember that name. The little league sensational pitcher is on the cover of this week’s sports illustrated magazine making her the first ever little leaguer to grace the magazine’s cover. The 13-year-old who plays for the Philadelphia’s Taney Dragons, became the first girl to throw a shutout in World Series history. [SPORTS ILLUSTRATED]

BUSINESS

•Newly minted owner of the L.A Clipper Steven Ballmer has resigned from Microsoft’s board following his departure as CEO eight months ago, though he remains Microsoft’s top individual shareholder.[BLOOMBERG]

CELEBRITIES

•New Balance is getting trendy. No longer the shoes lacrosse players wore off duty, New Balance held a dance party where celebs such as Joe Manganiello, Dania Ramirez Kidada and Rashida Jones, Busy Phillips, Jordana Brewster, Diego Boneta, Mandy Moore, Nicholas Kirkwood, Liz Goldwyn and Brad Goreski attended. The party held at the home of jeweler Pascal Mouawad was powered by ISKO maker of James Jeans and music by DJ Best and DJ Ana Calderon.

FASHION

• Penske Media, which was recently in the news for it’s dismissal of Deadline.com’s Nikke Finke is set to “acquire Fairchild’s business-to-business titles, including WWD, from Condé Nast.” M, Beauty Inc., Footwear News and Fairchild Summits was sold for a reported $100 million. [FASHIONWEEK DAILY]

•Madison Square Park was the scene of the launch Of The New DKNY MYNY Fragrance. DJ-ed by dating DJ duo Brendan Fallis and Hannah Bronfman, the event had on hand Rita Ora, Chrissy Teigen and “Cronut King” with Rita Ora wearing what could be described as tin foil dress with platform tinfoil sneakers.
