New findings among 684 elderly people, those who followed a Mediterranean diet high in fish and low in meat, had larger brain volumes than those who did not. This same diet is also associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease and decrease in heart diseases.

SWEDEN

A masked man in his 20s armed with a sword entered a school in Kronogarden which is 45 miles north of Sweden’s second-largest city, Goteborg, killing a teacher and wounding five people before he was shot by the police. [NY TIMES]

The Google owned brand announced the roll out its new premium service YouTube Red, scheduled to go live on Oct. 28 and will cost $9.99 per month. Red is an ad-free version that will allow users to play its many videos offline. The website has more than a billion users, who watch hundreds of millions of hours each day on the web site, generating billions of views.


MUGABE

Zimbabwean President/dictator who has been ruling for 35 years was awarded China’s version of the Nobel peace prize the “Confucius Prize”  beating off competition from candidates including Microsoft founder Bill Gates  and South Korean president, Park Geun-hye. To put it in context, previous winners of the Confucius prize include Vladimir Putin and Fidel Castro, so there’s that.


SPORTS

An outstanding season had hopeful Cubs fans thinking this was the year but the NY Mets dashed those dreams after sweeping the Series 4-0 to advance to the World series game.
