The “largest interior design school in Chicago,” is closing after 84 years. The Harrington College of Design in the loop will cease operations in August 2018 and students can transfer to Columbia College Chicago, pending accredit or approval. [DNA INFO]

Bob Menendez, who is expected in Federal Court today, has been charged with accepting nearly $1 million in gifts and campaign contributions from a longtime friend Dr. Salomon Melgen in exchange for a stream of political favors. 11 former Atlanta public school educators were escorted out of a courtroom in handcuffs on Wednesday following after being found guilty in the Atlanta Public Schools test-cheating trial, and charged with racketeering for their role in a scheme to inflate students’ scores on standardized exams. The racketeering charges carry up to 20 years in prison. A 12th defendant, a teacher, was acquitted of all charges by the jury. [NY DAILY NEWS]


WORLD NEWS

Garissa University College in eastern Kenya was attacked and 14 people have been reported killed, some in critical condition and Christian students were taken hostage. Militant group Al-Shabaab, which claimed responsibility for the attack, has in the past carried out attacks in Garissa, though there had been warnings that an attack in the town could be imminent. McDonalds announced they will raise pay to $1 over the local minimum wage and offer new benefits to 90,000 employees in the 1,500 outlets in the United States, under their corporate control, that it owns and operates in a statement released Wednesday.
