Orlando. Early Sunday morning as revelers were ending their night at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, a lone gunman who was armed with an assault rifle and a handgun began shooting mercilessly. A phonecall was made to 9-1-1 plegding his allegiance to ISIS. With 49 killed and 50 injured, this makes it the deadliest mass shooting in US history. The task of identifying the victims and notifying next of kin has now started with Orlando Mayor saying 48 of 49 nightclub shooting victims have been identified. • China Life, Asia Pacific’s highest valued insurance firm, is investing $600 million in Didi Chuxing, a fierce rival of Uber in China. This new round of funding, once closed, will have exceeded $3.5 billion in funding for Didi with a valuation of around the $25 billion mark according to TechCrunch. The four year old transportation startup claims 300 million users of its taxi, chauffeur, bus and other services. China Life invested in Uber global, not Uber China, last summer.
• Fears over the upcoming Brexit vote has sent some stocks tumbling. Brexit (Britain exit) votes will begin next week which will decide if Britain leaves the European Union. The biggest falls for Asian stock markets in four months, and a 1% drop in European share pricesare being blamed on Brexit concerns.
• Microsoft is buying LinkedIN for $26.2 billion!!! The social-networking site that was founded in 2002, announced the sale this morning. The deal that “brings together the world’s leading professional cloud with the world’s leading professional network” is expected to close this calendar year. LinkedIn will retain its distinct brand, culture and independence. Jeff Weiner will remain CEO of LinkedIn, reporting to Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. Reid Hoffman, chairman of the board, co-founder and controlling shareholder of LinkedIn, and Weiner both fully support this transaction.

• Last night’s Tony Awards was in dedication to the victims of the Orlando mass shooting. Host James Corden opened the show with somber remarks saying “you are not on your own, your tragedy is our tragedy,” before breaking into a wonderful intro performance. Highlights of the night includes Hamilton’s sweep, Lin Manuel Miranda’s poem, Glenn Close and Andrew Rannells as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

• Burberry COO John Smith is resigning from the British luxury brand to pursue new interests, and “exploring several leadership positions in fast-growing international businesses.” He will remain on the Burberry board until 2017 which might signal some changes in upper management for the company whose CEO is also its creative director, Christopher Bailey.
