Jerusalem backlash. Following US president Trump’s announcement yesterday that saying “it is time to officially recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” reversing decades of US policy, there’s been backlash and protests in the region. The president also noted that he is directing the US state department to begin preparations to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was profoundly grateful to Mr Trump, who had “bound himself forever with the history of the capital.” On the contrary, Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas which runs the Gaza Strip, has called for a “day of rage” on Friday and said it should “be the first day of the intifada against the occupier.” Both the UN Security Council and the Arab League will meet in the coming days to decide their response….Read more

• According to an exclusive report by Reuters, Uber allegedly paid a 20-year-old Florida man who was responsible for Uber’s large data breach last year. He was paid by Uber to destroy the data through a so-called “bug bounty” program normally used to identify small code vulnerabilities though Uber is yet to comment on this.
• In Chicago news: ‘Tis the season to be jolly and give back and on Wednesday, Google’s charity arm announced it’s donating $1.5 million of that, $1 million will be a grant towards Chance The Rapper’s nonprofit, SocialWorks and $500,000 to Children First Fund to support computer science programming at CPS. Chance also surprised several students earlier this week by gifting 300 pairs of the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Win Like ’96” sneakers at an open mic event honoring his mentor Brother Mike. Speaking of Chance, his dad Ken Bennett is also making news for his recent criticism of CPS chief Forrest Claypool and the board. The Chicago Public Schools’ inspector general is urging the Chicago Board of Education to fire Claypool for lying during an ethics investigation. 19 people including some from the Chicago area were rounded up and charged in a drug bust that was carried out Wednesday AM.
• Southern California’s wildfire is still raging on and being fueled by high winds with gusts up to 80 mph. Hundreds of firefighters from across the area are battling the fast moving fires as residents are told to evacuate. Officials, according to CNN, say they will see a “recipe for explosive fire growth” of high winds, a super dry humidity of less than 10% and a fire danger of 296 on Thursday.

• The $450M record breaking Leonardo da Vinci “Salvator Mundi” that was sold last month is headed to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, according to reports. It was bought by one Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan al-Saud, a “little-known” Saudi Arabian prince with no history as an art collector.
• The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Women in Entertainment’ breakfast honoring and celebrating the industry’s leading women took place Wednesday at Milk Studios. Gal Gadot present a college student with the first Wonder Woman scholarship. Justin Timberlake who was a scholarship presenter told the men in the room “We need to go to work. It’s not our responsibility. It’s our privilege because at the end of the day if you can be lucky enough to be raised by a strong woman and convince a strong woman to marry you, you will realize that we are nothing without the strength of women.” Jennifer Lawrence received the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, presented by Lansing; Amy Pascal was honored with the Equity in Entertainment Award; Sarah Silverman delivered the opening remarks; and Angelina Jolie gave the keynote speech.

• The Chanel Métiers d’Art collection 2018 show took place at the Elbphilharmonie in Karl Lagerfeld’s hometown of Hamburg, Germany. Kaia Gerber walked the show; Kirsten Stewart, Tilda Swinton, Lily Rose Depp were in attendance. Another model has come forward alleging sexual harassment against fashion photographer Bruce Weber. Some of the fashion set have made the annual decampment to Miami for Art Basel Miami Beach. Prada’s pop club is one of the highlights. Lastly, Kylie Jenner’s cosmetics line will soon launch 30 shades of concealer including a slew for darker toned women. Some WOC are not buying it and saying its a little too late especially with the bandwagon of beauty companies after the successful launch of Fenty beauty which launched products catered to women of all skin tones.
