APEC SUMMIT.  The President addressed leaders of 21 economies from the Pacific region at the Summit which took place in the Vietnamese port city of Da Nang Friday. In his speech, Trump said he would always put US interests first and Apec nations should “abide by fair reciprocal trade.” He seemed to have taken a swipe at China when listing his (America’s) grievances on trade referencing currency manipulation, and the forcing of companies to give up their intellectual property to get market access. According to Reuters, a planned meeting of leaders of the 11 countries in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), to discuss how to push ahead with TPP, after the United States pulled out this year, did not take place on Friday…..Read more

• This was the opposite of The Best Week Ever for Outcome Health and its founders Rishi Shah and Shradha Agarwal. After the lawsuit filed in New York by its investors for fraud, the Department of Justice is getting in the mix with subpoenas. Investors disclosed in the suit they received subpoenas from the Justice Department as part of a fraud investigation.
• Six females employees from the Cook County Public Defender’s Office, in a new lawsuit filed alleges, Public Defender Amy Campanelli, and Sheriff Thomas Dart, ignored complaints about repeatedly witnessing detainees masturbate in front of them. The Sun Times wrote a story about the situation late last month stating Campanelli in a letter to Chief Judge Timothy Evans, said her staff has reached a breaking point and won’t visit the jail starting Nov. 6 unless he or Sheriff Tom Dart can offer up a solution. According to the Trib, attempts by Dart and Campanelli to curb the misconduct were either ineffective or short-lived, according to the suit, which claimed that at one point the sheriff rewarded detainees with a pizza for going 30 days without exposing themselves or masturbating.

 

 This is a bit of a why now but tech investor, Sean Parker, who’s made billions as an early shareholder and also happens to be the founding president of Facebook, talked to Axios about the power and effects of the social networks. He gave insights about the thought process that went into building social networking sites like Facebook “How do we consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible?” “It’s a social-validation feedback loop…exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you’re exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology.” “It probably interferes with productivity in weird ways. God only knows what it’s doing to our children’s brains.”

 Lupita Nyong’o who will star in the upcoming Black Panther movie next year, took to instagram to call out Grazia UK magazine and her disappointment at them for photoshopping her natural hair from the magazine cover. The original photograph features her natural hair, which is tied back, but is edited out for the final cover photo, which shows her with a smooth buzz cut.
• Call it the Harvey Weinstein effect but there’s more sexual misconduct allegations surfacing in the entertainment industry. Comedian and director Louis CK has been accused of sexual misconduct by 5 women, in an investigation published by The New York Times. Prior to the Times report, the premiere of his new movie I Love You, Daddy was canceled. The movie itself drew controversy as it centers around a tv producer who has a sexual relationship with an actress who’s about to star in his new TV show, while his teenage daughter, a legal minor, is having a fling with a much older, Woody Allen-like film director. Just a couple few hours after the Louis C.K. story broke, former Mad Men writer Kater Gordon accused series creator Matthew Weiner of sexual harassment.

FASHION

• Online luxury resale retailer Tradesy, opened a showroom in Santa Monica showcasing rare fashion from it’s collection including a $100,000 Louis Vuitton commode and art as well as hosting art exhibitions and community events. In honor of the launch, Tradesy collaborated with artist Illma Gore. Naomi Campbell has switched modeling agencies from New York models to DNA Model management as she looks to add acting, philanthropy campaigns to her repertoire.
