What event, that started with about 500 people has steadily grown in attendance and popularity year over year drawing upwards of 2,000 guests? That would be Gateway Green’s Green Tie Ball. It’s a marquee event for the fall social season that brings out over 2,000 guests. In year’s past, the event has been held at A. Finkl & Sons steel plant but since they moved their headquarters last year, the party moved just a little south to UIC and you couldn’t really tell the difference. VIP guests began arriving at 6:30 and gala guests subsequently after, at 8:30pm.

There was no want or complaint for food or drinks, at least not visibly seen, as the tents were full of Chicago’s favorite restaurants including Adobo Grill, Gibson’s, Mercadito, Siena Tavern, Bull & Bear, 90 Miles Cuban cafe and more. The bars were well placed all around the event site which meant you didn’t have to wait in a 15 person deep line just for a drink. When there’s a Stans Donuts and Garret’s popcorn situation at a party? there will be happy guests and green tie ball had both and more.
Though the event was held outside, and it was a chilly fall night, there were heat lamps all around to keep guests cozy if non of the wine, whiskey, beer, liquor from the open bar didn’t.
The entertainment portion of the evening began with DJ Justin Jacobson followed by DJ Rose & DJ Kane. As some guests walked up and down the food station inside and outside the tents, grabbing a kobe slider here, pork tacos there, some were partaking in some charitable gaming sponsored by River Casino.

Val Warner and Ryan Chiaverini, hosts of Windy City Live, were the evening’s emcee.
Lee Golub and Susana Negovan, 2014 Green Tie Ball chairs thanked guests and sponsors for their support of the event.

Guests had the opportunity to bid on different auction items from vacations, restaurants to art work.

As the night went on DJ Rock City took to the turntables, performance by Dr. Bombay, Perry Farrell, the evening’s special guest DJ entertained the crowd before DJ Matt Roan closed out the night and confetti showers streamed down.
A lot of familiar faces werespotted at the event, too many to name but everyone looked to have had a good time.
