Expo Chicago Art Week Must Attend Events

Officially, the sixth annual EXPO Chicago will kick off on Wednesday September 13 with the preview event Vernissage, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago Women’s Board, and will run until Sunday September 17. With each year, the art events gains steam as it stakes its claim to be one of the major art exhibitions in the US circuit (though I wish one of these days they can add some oomph to really make it stand out like ABMB *I have ideas). With art comes parties, from private events to complimentary ones I’ve rounded up some of the EXPO Chicago/Art week/Chicago Architecture Biennial scene making related events taking place in Chicago for you to partake.


EVENT: Evening Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago Art Walk gallery tour

A week leading up to EXPO Chicago & the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Join the Evening Associates as as they explore a dozen galleries open late just for Art Walk. Featuring multiple unique routes through the River North neighborhood to experience a wide variety of art from around the world, including sculpture, ceramics, prints, paintings, photography, and installation art. We’ll be topping off this very special evening with an After-Party at the new design restaurant/bar Marshall’s Landing in the Merchandise Mart with the generous support of Sipsmith. Info and Tickets Here:

EVENT: Artsy & Expo Chicago Opening night celebration for Singing Stones
The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art, with the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Institut français and The DuSable Museum of African American History, in partnership with Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, welcome you to Palais de Tokyo Opening Night Celebration with Artsy will kick off EXPO Art Week.

EVENT: EXPO CHICAGO Vernissage 2017
The MCA hosts Vernissage, the opening night preview of EXPO CHICAGO at Festival Hall, Navy Pier. This extraordinary benefit, organized by the MCA Women’s Board, is a highly anticipated event each year. This year is particularly special as it coincides with MCA 50.

EVENT: Nick Cave’s Up Right Chicago
Navy Pier, EXPO Chicago and the Chicago Architecture Biennial invite you to attend the premier performance of Up Right Chicago, an artistic collaboration between world renowned contemporary artist, Nick Cave and interational architect and MacArthur Fellow, Jeanne Gang. The creative duo join forces to present a site-specific series performance with orginal muisc composed and performed by Kahil Elzabar.

Sub Chroma Experiential Art Pop-Up
EVENT: Sub Chroma Experiential Art Pop-Up
Canvas Chicago partnered up with Pullman Porter Group to produce a Sub Chroma Pop-Up series featuring interactive installations, curated galleries of physical and digital works, collaborative digital art performances, and live music performance.

EVENT: Know Wave x Notre x Nick Van Woert
The Friday night event, an epic kick-off in support of New York-based artist, Nick Van Woert’s first solo exhibtion in Chicago, is headlined by Chicago locals Katie Got Bandz, Nikeboi Swoosh, and DJ Jack Donoghue (Salem).
