Portillos Launches Fashion Line

When you want to take your love of Portillo’s beyond the Italian beef sandwiches, chocolate cake and Chicago-style hotdogs with everything, to the next level, cop a merch. Portillos, the former family owned restaurant started in 1963 by Dick Portillo, just launched its 1963 apparel merch line just in time for National hotdog week. Portillo’s is also offering free delivery  from July 15 -21at all locations on orders of at least $10 as they celebrate National Hot Dog Week.

 


Jake Melnicks Birthday Happy Hour

Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap is celebrating its golden birthday on July 17th! The Streeterville/Gold Coast neighborhood favorite will host a Birthday Happy Hour from 4pm – 6pm where guests will receive 17% off their entire bill. You can also grab a Birthday Cake Shake for $4 all day long!

And if you can’t make their birthday celebration, stop in on Monday, July 29 for National Chicken Wing Day where Jake’s will be offering 1/2 off all wings during happy hour.

Ravinia Opens Rooftop BMO Club

Ravinia, the oldest music festival in North America, just opened a new gathering place with the launch of its 2019 season. The BMO Club is the new rooftop located in the Experience Center building on the North Lawn. It the perfect spot for a quick drink or charcuterie, some cheese and crackers and small-plate farm-to-table options (the food menu here is is not extensive FYI). If you’re looking for a unique event space, The BMO Club is a cool choice as it can accommodate more than 170 guests on the rooftop of Ravinia’s new Experience Center building. In addition to bar seating, there’s also an area connected by an observation bridge to Ravinia’s Dining Pavilion.  

Play Kitchen & Cocktails Club

Play Kitchen & Cocktails (7 W. Division Street) serving eclectic and creative representations of American classics paired with an approachable craft cocktail menu in Chicago’s Gold Coast is now open. Play seeks to be a lively and dynamic bar and lounge with a focus on sports viewing, happy hour, novelty menu items, guest DJs and more. The 3,600 sq. ft. space welcomes guests to a modern and sleek bar lined with comfortable booth seating, contemporary graffiti art installations, and custom-built LED backlit walls in an unpretentious lounge setting. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Melva Jarvis (contestant on Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games”; Caesars Palace Las Vegas), the menu features insta bait dishes like 24-Karat Gold Wings featuring house smoked jumbo wings tossed in 24K gold bourbon BBQ sauce with 24K gold flakes and served with ranch or blue cheese sauce; a Surf and Turf Burger with grilled double steak patties, aged cheddar, mustard, grilled onions, lettuce and tomatoes, topped with a lemon-grilled half shelled lobster tail on a toasted butter bun with brown butter aioli; and Cajun Mac with fusilli pasta and grilled chicken tossed in a signature cajun cheese sauce.

Bird’s Eye Bar & Grill @ Lincoln Park Zoo

Bird’s Eye Bar & Grill, an exciting new dining and private event venue, at Lincoln Park Zoo located above the gift shop, is now open. Bird’s Eye Bar & Grill is a family-friendly destination for visitors to Lincoln Park Zoo, where they can also take in top view of the zoo’s lush landscape, and fun games  before, during, or after their meals. 


Bacon and Beer Classic 2019

The Bacon and Beer Classic, is returning to Chicago this fall for its 5th year in the city. If you’re not familiar, the event is an over the top all-inclusive all you can eat food and drink fest that set to take place at Soldier Field on Saturday, October 12 with even more bacon-inspired dishes, creative craft beers, on-site activations, and contests. Over 30 local restaurants (Joy District, Chicago Q, Davanti Enoteca + more) will serve up original savory dishes and desserts like maple bacon donuts , chocolate chip bacon cookie to satisfy your adventurous palate.  Wash it all down with 100+ beers and ciders from breweries like Twisted Hippo, Buffalo Creek Brewing, Half Acre Beer Company and Door 4 Brewing Co.

Tickets go on sale Friday, July 19 at 10am CST. There are hree ticket types: General Admission, Power Hour, or VIP. General Admission tickets begin at $49 and VIP tickets top out at $115The Classic offers unlimited unique bacon dishes prepared by local chefs combined with unlimited sips of regional beers and ciders. Guests can compete in a bacon eating contest with a chance to win a year’s supply of Hormel® Black Label Bacon, play flip cup, ride a bacon seesaw, and whats a classic without taking home a commemorative tasting glass.


Upton’s Naturals is having a birthday

Chicago-based Upton’s Naturals, the independently owned food brand known for pioneering flavored seitan and kickstarting the jackfruit trend, is turning 13 years old and their  local restaurant, Upton’s Breakroom, is turning six so a birthday celebration is in order. To celebrate, Upton’s Naturals is hosting an all-day party on July 25th at the Upton’s Breakroom (2054 W Grand Avenue). The Very Big Birthday Party will feature a Vegan Dollar Menu all day (11am-7:30pm) of fun-sized versions of the café’s best-sellers, including fried bacon mac, bar-b-que jackfruit tacos, “Chicago style” Italian sandwiches, nachos, sundaes, and housemade cookies! From 5:30pm to 7:30pm they will unveil a ‘Very Big Vegan Burger!’ a  giant version of the Upton’s Naturals Classic Burger featuring a custom-baked, 17” bun from Highland Baking Co.  Dogs are welcome at this outdoor celebration! 


River Roast Champagne & Chicken Party

The deal is available daily from 3pm – 5pm! The Happy Hour menu additionally features the favorite Rose & Oysters combo for $35 (now available 7 days a week), Charcuterie plates, Farmers Market Crudite, Shrimp Ceviche, Burrata, Lobster Burger, and more. DJ Pauly D Performs at TAO Chicago. One of our favorite Jersey Shore castmate and “Double Shot at Love,” co-star DJ Pauly D took to the stage at TAO Chicago nightclub on Friday June 28. TAO Chicago, part of the TAO Group, also hosted their tradition Swedish Midsummer party for the first time in the city where Bears star Khalil Mack and Bachelorette contestant Dustin Kendrick were spotted on the scene enjoying Moët & Chandon and Casamigos while listening to sounds from Saint Clair and DJ Vice. Anderson Paak was spotted at TAO Chicago the night before his Chicago tour stop.

Roebuck Pizza

Roebuck Pizza, a Neo-Neapolitan pizza bar + cocktails spot, will be opening this September in East Lakeview (Broadway & Belmont). Roebuck will also offer brewed lagers from the masterminds behind DryHop Brewers and Corridor Brewery & Provisions.

Roebuck Pizza’s 2,700 sq. ft space with an open kitchen and in-house brewpub, will serve wild-fermented pizzas made in a wood-burning oven. The drink program will specialize in light and bright pizza-pairing cocktails and house-brewed lagers.

Harbor

Parelta Hospitality, LLC is bringing a new American cuisine dining destination, Harbor, to the heart of the South Loop (1312 South Wabash), opening Fall 2019. Harbor which will be in the old Gioco space, aims to reinvent traditional American fare with a locally sourced menu by Chef/Partner Anthony Bernal (Mastro’s Steakhouse) and unique beverage program, both influenced by the Great Lakes and the founders’ personal passion for sailing. Tradition meets creativity in the most delicious way with the restaurant’s charcuterie program, which will be housed in a designated charcuterie room where chef will freshly cure meats in house, and a full raw bar offering favorites including oysters, shrimp, crab and clams, which will offer an approachable happy hour and late night menu. The menu will feature savory dishes prepared on a rotisserie, grill and hearth oven in an open view kitchen for guests to enjoy and watch as chefs prepare their plates.
