Public Hotel’s library was the perfect setting for chef Jean Georges Vongerichten’s Chicago book launch party.  Guests nibbled on pump room appetizer and sipped wine and champagne. It was a very chic very well executed affair with guests that included: Sherren Leigh(Founder & EIC of Today’s Chicago Woman), Frédéric Fekkai who was in town for an ULTA event, Victor Skrebneski(an AMAZING photographer, amazing!), Jay Michael of Cedar Capital, Dan Uslan and Susanna Negovan of Michigan Avenue Magazine, Lynne Bredfeldt of Park Hyatt, Kimberly Burt of Maison PR, Candace Jordan of Chicago Tribune and the soon to debut Watch 312, Chef Ryan LaRoche of NoMI plus many more. I enjoyed how candid Chef Jean Georges and Mr. Schrager were with guests answering questions.

When asked where he gets his inspiration from, Chef Jean Georges stated he listens to what people want, to please the people. The inspiration for the book started 4 years ago when he took some time off to cook for his family and friends in a small cottage in the country. He grew up on a farm you know.

A guest asked what he learned about opening a restaurant in Chicago, Mr. Schrager stated it wasn’t as easy as it seems; It was one of the first few times in his career he had to say “lower the price.”  People want affordable luxury, to be pleased and satisfied without breaking the bank. “People are nicer in Chicago than in New York” said Chef Jean Georges. The process was organized chaos which made the success much more enjoyable and there are more projects to come.

In his quest to get acclimated with the city’s dining establishments Chef recently ate at Big Star and he is looking forward to trying Alinea.
