The Business of Fashion has released their report of the ‘The Best Companies To Work For In Fashion’ and only 16 companies made the cut as “the industry’s leading employers.” The report which surveyed “over 2,600 employees working across all aspects of the industry, in more than 190 companies around the world” stated that many of the world’s most famous luxury fashion companies failed to make the cut. Though none of the listed companies are HQed in Chicago they do have extensions in forms of retail stores in our city including: Zara, Warby Parker, Nordstrom Inc, Gucci, Adidas, Gap Inc, H&M.

“Indeed, the need for fashion companies to review their recruitment and talent strategies has never been more pressing. The global workforce is in the midst of a radical demographic shift. By 2020 millennials are expected to make up the largest portion of the overall working population. To gain a competitive advantage, and attract and retain the best of this new generation of talent, companies must tailor their HR practices to meet and exceed the preferences of millennials, who place far greater emphasis on career development opportunities, transparent leadership and working culture than previous generations…the industry as a whole does not perform as well in another key driver for employee satisfaction: leadership and development. Only 59 percent of employees say they are satisfied with opportunities for training and development, while only 57 percent are satisfied with the levels of transparency around career progression within the company.“
As with many companies looking to offer more to retain talent beyond a lucrative salary and benefits package, “today’s best (fashion) employers offer more than just traditional salaries and benefits.”
