On Friday April 20, The new Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital made its debut to about 800 guests for the preview gala of the soon to open world class facility. The new Children’s hospital slated to open June 9 at 225 E. Chicago Avenue is AH-mazing! The night kicked off with a reception with passed flutes of champagne as Host Sarah Jessica Parker made her interview rounds*.
This was one of those power packed Chicago gala’s. I couldn’t keep up with all the recognizable names in attendance some of which made our very own Power 45 list. Guests such as Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Patrick Ryan, William Daley, Northwestern U President Morton Schapiro, David Axelrod, Eric Lefkofsky, Bears Coach Lovie Smith, Nora Daley Conroy and many others marveled at the facility. Guests were then ushered up to the 11th floor for a reception in an atrium area that consisted of a violinist quartet, a plethora of food and even a station with a chef manning a prosciutto leg. Following the cocktail reception it was time for dinner. Depending on the package you bought you either had dinner in the Purple, Green or Orange section. The orange section seemed to be where the high ticket buyers dined as they sipped on DeLoach Chardonnay and Moet champagne.
Host Sarah Jessica Parker made the rounds in the 3 different dining sections and thanked guests in attendance while raising a toast to the new hospital.
I truly beleive this new hospital will be a world class facility and with it’s close proximity to Prentice, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Rehab Institute of Chicago; this might be the new chic medical district. From the mini tour I took, I was so impressed by all the little details for the clinical staff in addition to the more visible ones. The Ann and Robert H. Lurie hospitalwas designed to serve patients but also empower the staff with resources to be able to do as such. I think the idea of making the imaging machine resemble a submarine is so ingenious.
In the months to come there will be opportunites to see the new facility up close. Chicago already has top ranking healthcare facilities and this new Children’s hospital will definitely add to that reputation.
*SLC had a spot in the interview line but since I got there about 45minutes late yea my SJP moment didn’t happen but I was beaming just to see that the site actually had a spot!
