On Saturday (March 23) the third annual Project Ladybug bash was held in the Preston Bradley Hall under the grand Tiffany glass dome of the Chicago Cultural center; Guests ate, bid, drank and fund raised merrily. The evening included a strolling station which featured food from some of Chicago’s restaurants including Sunda, Stout Barrel House & Gallery, Cumin, Punky’s Pizza and Pasta, Moe’s Cantina, Sweets from Sugar Hills Bakery and many more with beverages sponsored by 4 Rebels Vodka, VitaminWater and Peroni Italy.

There was a whirl of activity that evening including a bicyclist who dispensed wine from atop, host Ted Brunson and co-emcee Rebecca Ortiz leading a lively game of Heads or Tails,  guests getting colored hair extension clips provided by Ted Odisho extensions, lady wearing napkin dress and a wall of art.

The room was also filled with many silent auction items in which guests such as Jesus Salgueiro and Art Smith could bid on. Some of the items ranged from home design to sports tickets and trips.

The evening helped raise awareness and funds towards Atia’s Project Ladybug Fund founded by Dina Manzo. Atia, now 4 years old and thankfully in full remission was diagnosed with cancer at 17 months of age and underwent over 2 years of aggressive chemotherapy treatment. APLF was launched in December 2010. The hope of APLF at University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital, is to improve the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families by minimize outside stresses so they can focus their energy on what’s truly important – getting well. When a family is in critical financial need, APLF steps in to cover the cost of groceries, rent, transportation, prepaid cell phones, car repairs, and other more specific items.
