In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I hope you will indulge me a little as I share what I am thankful for. Not everyone is given or seeks the opportunity to use their voice/resource to help raise awareness, praise others for their great work and just plain revel in how awesome of a city we live in and I am glad I’m able to that through SociaLifeChicago.
I am thankful and most of all grateful for every opportunity that I have been afforded during this past 11 months. My family’s love and support, which without I would probably be in a dark corner hung over with no goals or direction, has helped me through the good days and the challenging ones. I am thankful for friends old and new that provided a listening ear or offered constructive feedback, said yes to helping me with a blog idea. Thankful for Prof. Charles Whitaker who helped me realize I could do this. I am thankful for the people who didn’t know me from Adam, willing taking the time to meet with me to talk, encourage, listen, contribute and help me come up with ideas. Thankful for Cameka Smith of BOSS Network, who helped me get my first paid copywriter job-I was so giddy when I called my parents to tell them. I am thankful for mentor in my head Carla Harris and her book “Expect to Win.”
With the passing of Steve Starr recently, I’ve had to re-evaluate certain things. Though I only knew him professionally, I know he did what he loved and I’ve been told many times that without passion, you’re just doing. I am thankful that I am passionate about writing, about providing a solution for you( I am, right?) and being able to interact and engage with you all on a daily basis. Thank you for reading, RTing, Liking, mentioning to your friends.
As some of us begin to prepare a lavish thanksgiving feast, let us take the time to reflect on the things and people in our lives and give thanks because tomorrow is not promised. I hope to continue to grow with you all and hope you stick with me.
So please, it goes without saying to tell someone you appreciate them. The past 11 months has been a true test of persistence, perseverance but it’s also been fun.
I’m curious, what are you thankful for?
