PHILANTHROPY SPOTLIGHT-BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Many of you reading this are well aware that philanthropy and giving back is one of the main things I advocate for(if you didn’t now you know). The reason I started doing ‘Philanthropy Spotlight’ was to share the vision + mission of the different causes and non-profits in and around Chicago to  hopefully affect a emotion or cause you you feel strongly about which in turn will get you into action in some manner. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, though in my opinion it should be a  year round campaign.
Throughout the month of October many companies partner with  organizations that  serve to raise awareness, fund for research or active participants in the community. According to recent statistics by the American Cancer Society, there’s an estimated 2,190 new cases of male breast cancer and 226,870 cases of breast cancer in women. A lot of people only associate breast cancer with females, while it is more prevalent in that population it does affect males too. In Illinois there were about 9,000 new cases of breast cancer alone. Each one of us, though we are not mandated or required, can do out part. One of you reading this may have had a mother, aunt, sister, uncle, son, daughter either get diagnosed and beat or succumb. Though technology is helping in understanding and treating breast cancer, there’s still a long way to go. Please do your part whether it’s volunteering your time, writing a check(any amount helps), join an organization that advocates /raises awareness/raises funds.  Below are some Breast Cancer month events taking place that you can participate in.
