• The bill (the USA Freedom Act) to curb the collection of phone records of millions of Americans was voted upon by members of the Senate and signed by President Obama on Tuesday. So what does it all mean? All that was covered in the Patriot Act except for the bulk collecting of phone-record program will be back on. Phone companies can now provide NSA or FBI those records on a case-by-case basis. With bulk data collection no longer permitted, the government will be forced to go to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court with specific requests for customer data. Thanks Edward Snowden? Also since people text/email more now, will that be exempt as well? [WALL STREET JOURNAL]

Last night BBC’s Ahmen Khawaja sent out 2 tweets that Queen Elizabeth had been taken to the hospital and died but it was actually a dry run “to examine its readiness for the queen’s death on Wednesday, a routine event staged by many news organizations.” Technical rehearsals for obituaries are a thing. Khawaja later amended her tweet: “Silly prank, Apologies for upsetting anyone!” [BBC]
• Don’t come for us unless we sent for you is basically the message from South Korea’s recently completed test-fire missiles which can “strike all parts of North Korea swiftly, and with precision, in the event of armed aggression or provocation.” South Korea had backing from the U.S and the missile launch comes a month after North Korea test-fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile. This is akin to the kid bullied on the playground hitting the punching bag open and the football team’s offensive lineman standing beside him making eye gestures to the bully. [REUTERS]
