• First lady Michelle Obama was in town yesterday at the auditorium at Chicago State University, to give the commencement speech to the 2015 grads of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. College Prep. An empty chair marked the spot where Hadiya Pendleton, who in 2013 was shot to death while seeking shelter from the rain on her way home from school a week after performing at President Barack Obama’s inauguration festivities in Washington, would’ve sat. Mrs. Obama told the students that it’s “ok to feel sadness and grief that comes with losses. She said it is up to them now to change the narrative about their communities.” [CHICAGO TRIBUNE]

• Figo the seeing eye 8-year-old golden retriever dog saved his owner, 62-year old Audrey Stone, when he put his body in front of an oncoming school bus saving Stone from the full brunt of the hit. Figo broke a bone but is expected to make a full recovery. [WASHINGTON POST]
WORLD NEWS
• Plans for a new military base in Iraq’s Anbar province is set to be announced later today with up to 500 more U.S. troops added in the fight against Islamic State. A new site would allow U.S. trainers to provide greater support for Sunni tribal fighters. [REUTERS]
SPORTS
• Bidding for the 2026 World Cup has been suspended by FIFA as the widening corruption scandal implicating previous bid contests. Potential bidders include the United States, Mexico, Canada and countries from Europe. [NY TIMES]
BUSINESS
• Mariott announced that Netflix will soon be available in “nearly all of its more than 300 properties” in the United States, the first partnership of its kind. The new partnership, currently being tested at 6 different properties, will let travelers watch Netflix directly through the TV rather than on smaller-screen tablets and phones. [MARKETWATCH]

• Melissa Rivers will be the new “Fashion Police” panel moderator when it resumes taping on Aug. 31. The new fashion police will have a new set and rotating cast of LA & New York celeebs and maybe even Wendy Williams, how you doin. [NY DAILYNEWS]

• Carolina Herrera, during a Masterclass Q&A with Elle magazine’s Robbie Myers, where she talked about highlights of her career and the recent state of fashion. On elegance “Elegance is not only what you’re wearing but it is the way you are wearing it. It’s the way you choose what to wear for your style, your personality, the way you live.
