Beyonce Celebrates, G20 in China Highlights, Venice Film Festival + More


G20. All global eyes were on China as they hosted the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province Sept. 4-5. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte called President Obama “son of a whore” while lashing out at the U.S. for raising questions about a “drug war” that’s left 2,400 Filipinos dead; he’s since walked back on those comments. China and the U.S. agreed to ratify the Paris climate change accord. There was the shouting match between Chinese security agents and White House officials when President Obama arrived. President Obama pledged $90 million on behalf of the US to Laos to clean up unexploded bombs, revealing the covert bombing of Laos during the Vietnam War. • After Chicago’s deadliest month (August) in terms of murder in two decades, September has already claimed 7 dead but instead of just pointing out the violence and being social media critics in Louboutin, let’s talk about being part of the solution by highlighting “an organization that is working hard to end gun violence in Chicago” (H/T idea Nikia J.). An organization called BUILD Chicago works in some of the toughest neighborhoods to stem the violence and on Oct. 6, they are partnering with Strides For Peace, founded by Maggie Baczkowski, on a Run/Walk at Soldier Field.

• The race to beat the competition (some speculate the iPhone 7) may have caused Samsung some key Q&A testing amidst the company’s massive recall. Two weeks after its launch of the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung announced it was recalling the phones in 10 markets including South Korea and the United States after finding its batteries were prone to ignite and halting sales indefinitely. Samsung’s major rival Apple will unveil a new iPhone (rumored to be the headphone jack-less iPhone 7) and few other Apple products/news tomorrow at the highly anticipated event.

• College football is back and as evidenced by a few games this weekend, its sure to be interesting season. Notre Dame, ranked #10 going into their game Saturday, lost 47-50 late in the 4th Q to unranked Texas. Oklahoma ranked #3 lost to University of Houston 23-33. Wisconsin pulled off quite the upset beating #5 ranked LSU 16-14. Last night’s game of #11 Ole Miss vs #4 Florida State started off with a strong lead by Ole Miss but after halftime, the Seminoles’ redshirt Freshman QB Deondre Francois and their defense could not be stopped and FSU won 45-34.


• Beyoncé celebrated her 35th birthday with a Soul Train themed bash in NYC attended by friends including Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, Usher Raymond and wife Grace, on Monday. Earlier yesterday, she posted thank you to family, fans via an instagram video.

• The 73rd Venice International Film Festival in Lido highlights and updates so far…PageSix reports that Mel Gibson’s faith based World War II action drama, “Hacksaw Ridge,” which stars Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving, Teresa Palmer and Luke Bracey, received a 10 minute standing ovation. Two Italian models caught the eyes of onlookers and cameras for their attire. Jude Law plays fictional Pope Pius XIII, the youngest and the first American pope in history, in HBO’s “The Young Pope.” Tom Ford debut his second directing film, “Nocturnal Animals” with Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon. Lastly, Vogue Italia EIC Franca Sozzani, is the subject of the film “Franca: Chaos and Creation” by Francesco Carrozzini, her son.
