Though she got married almost a decade ago to husband Justin Ervin, supermodel, body positivity activist, and mama to be Ashley Graham vividly remembers the experience of looking for a wedding dress that she would “feel special, something that would flatter and celebrate my body on one of the most important days of my life.” The choices she came upon as a curvy woman, were anything but flattering, which led to this debut collaboration with Spanish bridal fashion company Pronovias, to offer a collection available in sizes 0 to 34 (32 to 66).
The Ashley Graham x Pronovias bridal collection, offers beautiful gowns and a suit, in flattering silhouette for sample to curvy and plus sizes “cut and crafted to guarantee the perfect stylish fit for every body type.” Though strides have been made in apparel offerings from certain retailers and fashion brands in terms of better quality and for women of curvier fashion sizes, when it comes to the bridal market there’s still limited supply of non-custom dresses in bridal stores, despite the fact that they are very much in demand.
Talking about the collection and bridal dress shopping experience for a woman not of sample size, Graham explained “typically, we have to try on a smaller size and then either special order our size or reconstruct the dress to fit, So when you’re shopping, it makes it difficult to get that ‘this is the dress!’ feeling. One size and style does not fit all when it comes to wedding dresses.”
