As US officials and weather reporters, knowledgeable on the situation brief residents, the US president added his own 2 cents when tweeting Sunday about the areas it would likely hit. He included Alabama as one of the states in the storms path even though “Alabama borders the Gulf of Mexico but not the Atlantic, and was never forecast to be “hit” by the storm.” Geography lessons aside, so far five people have been reported dead in Bahamas. It has since weakened to a Category 3 though there’s a chance it might go off course and make contact mainland…Read more

NEWS

  • LOCAL/CHICAGO:  She said, what she said! Mayor Lori Lightfoot, not one to mince words defending the city politely tweeted “Keep our name out of your mouth” to Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) after he came after, again, Chicago’s uptick in violence by saying that’s why “gun control doesn’t work.” Lightfoot began the tweet “60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation.” Chicago’s outgoing FBI leader Jeffrey Sallet gave an exit interview to the Sun Times and talks about the city’s “corrupt public officials, I assure you, are losing sleep about us.”

  • NATIONAL:  A dive boat named Conception, which is used for those heading out to sea to scuba dive, that was near Santa Cruz Island off the Southern California coast where 33 passengers were headed for a three-day diving expedition caught on fire with at least 25 people dead so far and 9 people missing. Investigators of the National Transportation Safety Board are now on the scene to determine the cause of the blaze that started at about 3:15 a.m. on Monday where five of the 6 crew team escaped but many were trapped below deck.

  • WORLD:  A yet to be identified man, welding a knife has killed 8 school children on their first day back at school after the summer break at the Chaoyangpo Elementary School in the central Chinese province of Hubei. This as tensions and unrest continue to remain high in Hong Kong, embroiled in a political crisis with China. Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam, in a closed door meeting told those in attendance she now has “very limited” room to resolve the crisis.

ENTERTAINMENT

  • Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is finally breaking her silence after her brother was arrested in connection with a New Year’s Eve party murder in Cleveland where three people were shot dead. Biles tweeted a note where she wrote ‘My heart aches for everyone involved, especially for the victims and their families. There is nothing that I can say that will heal anyone’s pain, but I do want to express my sincere condolences to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy as we deal with our pain. XO‘ while she added “still having a hard time processing last week’s news.” Biles’ brother Tevin M. Biles-Thomas, who’s in the Army, was arrested this past Thursday at Fort Stewart in Georgia and charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury.

  • Prince Harry, who faced backlash after taking several private jet trips in matter of 11 days last month with his new family is finally speaking about the brouhaha at the launch of a new sustainable travel initiative project in Amsterdam. The Duke of Sussex, who flew commercial, said he flies by private jet occasionally to protect his family. This is also on the heels that his wife the Duchess of Sussex, who has apparently brought on Ken Sunshine’s crisis PR firm Sunshine  Sachs, has “excommunicated” her father from seeing her or their son Archie.

FASHION

  • Tom Ford’s shaking things up and leading the charge for diverse representation, at least when it comes to the Council For Fashion Designers (CFDA) board, an organization founded in 1962. The new chairman who took over from Diane Von Furstenberg in March 2019, has appointed 4 new designers to the Council’s board and they are: Kirby Jean Raymond, Carly Cushnie, Maria Cornejo, and Virgil Abloh. Also in fashion news, you may have missed over the weekend, Dior took down their tone deaf advert for the Johnny Depp fronted Sauvauge eevn when they tried to get in front of the controversy by mentioning it could be interpreted as cultural appropriation. Its kinda like someone prefacing something with “i’m not trying to be rude or anything but…” before saying something rude to you.
