From Friday through Sunday, we know you don’t even want to think about work but rather looking for a fun distraction to occupy your weekend. Whether you want to explore new haunts in Chicago, relax, take in a show or have a night out on the town that’ll make your snapchat and insta stories followers green with envy, here’s what to get into this weekend. The Chicago Weekend Guide for June 9-11.
Friday June 9 – It’s officially #summertimeChi which means neighborhood festivals galore. There’s a lot taking place this weekend but these are the recommended ones for you to go either solo or with a group for a good time. Andersonville’s MidSommarFest which runs from Friday June 9 until Sunday June 11; Ribfest Chicago from June 9-11; Old Town’s Wells Street Art Fest and Old Town Art fair. Spring Awakening though not an actual food fest is worth the trip, if house/EDM music is your thing; few tickets still remain.
Looking to give back while having some fun? Highsight, and organization that provides scholarships, tutoring, mentoring, leadership development, and college readiness programs that create new possibilities for Chicago high school students from low-income families, is hosting Midsummer EVE of the EVE Friday (6/9) night. Head over to Tesori (65 East Adams St.) For some food, drinks and music. Tickets are $60.
Saturday June 10 – If neighborhood festivals isn’t your thing but you love beer? Head over to Navy Pier for the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp, America’s craft Beer festival. It’s a celebration of the craft beer community. Chicago Tribune’s Printer’s Row Lit Fest is also taking place this weekend. The weekend will play host to authors such as: NBA icon Kareen Abdul-Jabbar, Senator Al Franken, National Book Award-winner Ibram X. Kendi, Luvvie Ajayi, Amanda Freitag and few others. How does a FREE $.99 (complimentary) morning of fitness and wellness to celebrate Global Wellness Day sound? If you’re up for it, join Nike® Master Trainer, Jason Raynor and team of Nike Elevated Trainers otherwise known as the JW Fit Squad at the JW Marriott Chicago (151 W. Adams St.) for their second Global Wellness Day event. Register HERE for your free Joga wellness session at JW Marriott. For the non-meat eaters or food adventurers there’s the vegan food and drink festival.
Ravinia season is off to a start and John Legend will be serenading the place Saturday night. Lawn tickets are unfortunately sold out but you might have some luck on pavilion seats or use craigslist or a trusted resale site. Just make sure you pack wine. You might even run into Chrissy Teigen and baby Luna.
June 11 – All food festival out? Take some me time for self care and networking at the Curvy Curly Conscious Chicago event taking place from 10am-5pm. Still hungry for more food? Check out the Pilsen Food Truck Social June 10-11. Whatever you do, if you will be outdoors for a long duration of time, remember sunscreen and hydration (water not just alcohol). Have a great weekend!
