If you’ve ever admired Beyonce Knowles’ flawlessly beat face, where she can go from dramatic to natural for the past few years or tuned into Lifetime’s American Beauty Star, you should be familiar with Sir John. THE Sir John Barnett, L’Oréal Paris Makeup ambassador, bka as Beyonce Knowles Carter’s makeup artist will finally be sharing his tips and tricks of the trade one-one in his first ever US masterclass and guess where it’s taking place? You guessed it, right here in Chicago!!!
On Wednesday, May 15 from 10am- 7:30pm at the Genacelli Salon (2829 N. Sheffield Ave) in Lincoln Park, beauty professionals looking to take their craft to the next level will have the opportunity to enhance their techniques through a full day of demonstrations and one-on-one practice with the makeup noble himself. Sir John will host his first hands on Master Class in the US in Chicago, presented by Erica Carr Global. Through this Masterclass, Erica Carr hopes that her artists will gain confidence, business advice, and the tools to take their careers to the next level. An artist herself with over 25 years in the beauty industry, Carr created Erica Carr Global to bring hands on training to makeup classes that were largely demonstration-based.
Beyonce is not Sir John’s only major client, he’s also glammed beauties such as Rosie Huntington Whitley, Naomi Campbell, Priyanka Chopra, Karlie Kloss, SZA, Joan Small to name a few. Sir John is one of the most sought-after makeup and color artists in the world, and he’s led master classes around the world, including in South Africa, Paris, and Dubai.
“We are so thrilled to host Sir John’s premier US master class because his approach to teaching is unlike anything we’ve seen. His motivating practices and humble attitude is a refreshing take on the otherwise saturated market of beauty. He is honest, open and incredibly supportive when it comes to sharing tips and techniques. His work ethic is un-matched and his wise words hit deep in your soul so you feel like you can do it too.” –
Erica Carr created her series of classes for working professional artists after realizing it simply didn’t exist. She hires the best artists in the world who are at the top of their game to educate the pros who take education and their careers seriously.
Today’s beauty landscape, while over saturated, also allows for a huge variety of makeup techniques. Beauty influencers, drag performers, and professional artists all bring different styles to the table. It’s not only important to know how to do a dramatic cut crease (as is common for Indian and Nigerian weddings), makeup artists should also learn how to do a well-matched, seamless base, how to apply eyeshadow on different eye shapes, how to apply makeup on mature skin, and on different skintones. All these skills will make for an artist with career longevity.
