Tennis star power was on hand in Chicago this past week and on Thursday (9/20) night at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier they arrived to celebrate the beginning of the second ever Laver Cup presented by Moët & Chandon. Laver Cup, “An Annual Team Competition Unlike Any Other In Men’s Tennis,” was created by 20-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer who was on hand with his wife Mirka along with some of the Tennis worlds finest and top players dressed in their finest dresses and tuxedo. In attendance were Mary Jo Fernandez, Savannah Guthrie, and Bastian Schweinsteiger & Ana Ivanovic
Tennis legends Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg (Team Europe captain ), and John McEnroe (Team World captain) were honored at the opening night dinner celebration at Navy Pier’s grand ballroom, host to many of Chicago’s best galas and events. The tennis all stars played the Laver Cup from September 21-23 at the United Center.
The room was welcomed by a Laver-themed opening rendition of Chicago The Musical before the players came together to announce one-another onstage, including Team Europe: Federer, Novak Djokovic, Kyle Edmund, David Goffin, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, and Jeremy Chardy; and Team World: John Isner, Kevin Anderson, Diego Schwartzman, Jack Sock, Nick Kyrgios, Frances Tiafoe, and Nicolas Jarry. The celebration gathered in high spirits off the day’s announcement that Federer and Djokovic would team up to take on Sock and Anderson in this evening’s first round of closing doubles. Some additional attendees included , to name a few. Guests enjoyed official tournament champagne, Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut, from golden goblets while the theatrical evening closed to a suspended tightrope performance.
