EVENT: Aymar Jean Christian Talk @ MCA

ABOUT:  Can the web open TV? Northwestern University professor Aymar Jean Christian argues that creators like Issa Rae and Ilana Glazer have used the internet to innovate the art and business of television in his new book, Open TV: Innovation Beyond Hollywood and the Rise of Web Television. Join Christian and Jacqueline Stewart, a noted University of Chicago film historian, as they use Christian’s innovative art-based project, Open TV (beta), as a jumping off point to discuss the possibilities and barriers to diversity in media in our current political moment.

EVENT: The Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival

ABOUT:  The 17th Annual Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, fusing SketchFest veterans with fresh new faces, and local favorites with award-winning international ensembles, will take place over the course of two weekends. Since its debut in 2002, the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival has grown to a sketch comedy oasis and the largest festival of its kind in the world, attracting over 1,000 artists and 10,000 patrons annually.

EVENT: Chicago Fashion Incubator Sample Sale and Designer Meet & Greet

ABOUT:  Stop by our one day only pop-up shop to check out pieces designed by Chicago Fashion Incubator’s current and former designers in residence. Guests will also have the unique opportunity to shop alongside the designers themselves and learn about the inspiration behind each collection. The event will feature brands including Wulfka, Gidi, Adilah M, Anna Brown, Lagi Nadeau, Shruti Kirti, and Varyform.

EVENT:Storytelling Series with: Juarez Hawkins and Damon Reed

ABOUT:  Chicago Athletic Association hotel is proud to collaborate with Art Design Chicago on a collection of co-hosted Storytellings throughout the year. This January in conjunction with Art Design Chicago exhibition, Bill Walker: Urban Griot, on view at the Hyde Park Art Center through April 8, the exhibition’s curator Juarez Hawkins talks with artist Damon Reed. The two will focus on the legacy of Bill Walker, one of the forefathers of the modern mural movement, and his influence on socially engaged art practice and street art of today. Admission is complimentary.

EVENT: River Roast Braised Meats Cooking Class

ABOUT:  Join James Beard award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano and Executive Chef John Hogan as they take on braised meats. Learn from the two experts as they demonstrate tips and tricks and share a few of their favorite recipes. Lunch and beverages are included

WHEN: Saturday, January 20
TIME: 12pm – 2pm


EVENT: ChiFive Brunch and a Musical

ABOUT:  Join ChiFive, the Associates Board for ChiArts (Chicago High School For The Arts), for a musical experience with their scholar-artists! Your $40 donation includes your brunch and theater ticket. Payment will be taken the day of the event.
LOCATION: The Chicago High School for the Arts | 2714 W. Augusta Blvd.
WHEN: Sunday, January 21
TIME: Brunch will take place from 12:30-2:30pm followed by the performance from 3:00-5:30pm
