La La Anthony first became a pop culture household name as one of the faces of MTV’s TRL. Though her roots in the entertainment industry actually began at the age of 15/16 on the radio, the 30something TRL VJ turned actress’ career has been on an upward trajectory to success. She is now a New York Times best selling author, mother, wife, actress and successful entrepreneur. Lala recently launched the La La Anthony Denim Collection exclusively at Lord and Taylor and on Saturday October 7, between 1-4pm she will make an instore appearance at Lord and Taylor Oakbrook (100 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, IL). *Customers with a $78 La La Anthony Denim collection purchase, can take a photo with La La in her shop on the Lower Level and receive a complimentary signed copy of her book.*
Music and MTV put her on the map plus a few on screen appearances here and there, it wasn’t until her affiliation with the Will Packer “Think Like A Man” franchise that her onscreen career began to really take off. She is currently starring as LaKeisha Grant in the Starz hit show Power and sent tongues wagging this summer in some steamy scenes opposite Chicago born actor Joseph Sikora. Ahead of her visit to Chicago, I had the chance to chat with the multi-hyphenate business woman about her career, the collection and her life lessons.
The La La Anthony Denim Collection, is not her first foray into retail. In 2012, she launched Motives For La La and was part of the annual Market America World Conference in Miami in 2016 where she delivered one of the keynote speeches. Through her affiliatiliation with Market America, she understood the concept of listening to the customer and creating for demographics that includes the working woman and moms, what they liked or dislike. That experience helped to create a really great clothing line, The Lala Denim collection, which launched with 15 pieces with offerings from sizes 0-24.
The collection has been receiving rave reviews from customers but to La its more than just clothing. Its about self esteem and empowerment with pricing and sizing being two key important points from the begining of putting the collection together. Many of the items in the collection are under $100 and Lala notes that they are already working on more items that will be added unto the initial collection on an ongoing basis.
As a bonafide business woman in front and behind the scenes, she offers these three life lessons to any aspiring working professional or entrepreneur: Have confidence in yourself, set goals for yourself and put in the hard work, it definitely pays off.
