From Friday through Sunday, we know you don’t even want to think about work but rather looking for a fun distraction to occupy your weekend. Whether you want to explore new haunts in Chicago, relax, take in a show or have a night out on the town that’ll make your snapchat and insta stories followers green with envy, here’s what to get into this weekend. The Chicago Weekend Guide for May 19-21.
Friday May 19 – The Art of Meditation at MCA Chicago. Looking to relax and find some inner peace after this stressful week? Equinox feels you and they want you to join in celebrating the launch of their Equinox HeadStrong™ Meditation Podcasts with a special Meditation and silent Yoga experience at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, guided by Equinox master instructor Michael Gervais. It’s complimentary with limited space available. 5:30 PM – 7:30. Sign up for Equinox’s HeadStrong™ Meditation Podcasts launch at MCA Chicago here.
Saturday May 20 – Start the day with the Good Sports YP crew at their Disco Brunch, take a disco nap, then head over to Venue One in your freshest Nike, Yeezy Boosts, Just Don’s or whatever your sneaker choice and celebrate the 2nd Kicks 4 the City’s Agora Sneakerball. I attended the event last year, coverage here, so it should be another great night. Hosted by Chicago PD’s LaRoyce Hawkins, get your 2017 Agora Sneakerball tickets here, though I am not sure why a fundraiser will have a barrier to prospective guests purchasing tickets.
May 20-May 21 – It’s always Wine O’clock somewhere and this weekend it will be at Jonquil Park for the Lincoln Park wine festival this weekend. The Wine fest spans Saturday and Sunday. Each year over 90 varieties of wines are available for tasting. Tickets are $50 for GA and $75 for VIP, though based on the website there isn’t much a difference except for that $25.
May 19-21 – The weather’s finally hitting above 70 which means Chicago festival season is upon us. Kick it off at Mayfest at Ashland and Barry. Admission is $10 and the weekend promises life music, brews and fest food. Get more information about the 22nd Mayfest in Chicago here.
April 23 – What’s a ‘Sunday scary” when you can hang with some of the city’s young art patrons and art lovers. Join the Art Institute of Chicago’s Evening Associates Board to kick off their summer fundraiser “Night Heist” at Westloop hotspot Ronero (738 W Randolph St.). The event is from 7:30-9pm so you don’t have to be partying way into the night if you don’t want to. Tickets are only $25 advance but $35 at the door/day of event.
