Native Chicagoan Kanye West has inked a new deal with German sportswear company Adidas, which the brand is calling, “the most significant partnership ever created between an athletic brand and a non-athlete.”
According to a press release from Adidas, the new endeavor, adidas + KANYE WEST, will include YEEZY branded shoes, apparel and accessories for both men and women. The line will be for both sports and street wear, focusing on performance-based apparel in addition to giving some lifestyle based options. West will serve as the director of the project and will develop the line alongside a team of Adidas professionals. There are also plans for the line to expand into retail stores around the world.
Since signing on to collaborate with Adidas in 2013, Kanye West has released two successful shoe brands, the Yeezy Boost 750 and the Yeezy Boost 350. The latter went on to become one of the fastest selling shoe brands in history and received the Shoe of the Year award from Footwear News. West has also broken into the world of runway fashion with the Yeezy Season 1 fashion show, which took place in February 2015.
“Kanye is a true creator who has the ability to see things others don’t. We are excited and honored to build on this partnership, and eagerly look forward to defining the future together,” said adidas CMO Eric Liedtke.
Kanye West had this to say about his new business endeavor, “These past two years, Adidas and YEEZY have given a glimpse into our future. This partnership illustrates that anyone with a dream can dream without limitations.”
