Any event that calls for pairing chic, yet comfortable sneakers with formal attire is alright in our book. But, that’s not the only reason why the inaugural AGORA Sneakerball for Kicks 4 The City that took place Saturday May 21 at Venue One, was the spot to make the scene that night.
Kicks 4 The City, a charity that began after a chance encounter with a homeless young man by founder Justin Johnson and the inaugural AGORA Sneakerball Gala, was created to raise money for new shoes to be donated to homeless students in Chicago. Did you know that Chicago Public Schools had about 20,000 homeless students in 2014?
VIP guests dressed in their ball gowns, tuxedo, suits, and cocktail dresses paired with all different kinds kicks including different color ways of Addidas’ popular Stan Smiths, Nike Air Force Ones, Yeezy Boosts, Huaraches and even a Ricardo Tisci x NikeLab circa 2014 sneaker boot, had an early start to the evening which included an open bar, passed bites and live jazz set.
Since this was a fundraiser, which event host LaRoyce Hawkins of Chicago P.D made mention of numerous times over the course of the night, there were several silent auction items that guests could bid on including aTaj Gibson signed Bulls jersey, custom men’s shoes from ESQ to name a few. Once VIP hour was over and the rest of guests, limited to their few drink tickets, began to fill in the venue, the DJ took over music duties. Artist P Scott, who co-owns NYCH Art Gallery in Pilsen was on hand for the live painting which was done on stage as host Hawkins and several others took the stage to address guests respectively. They also honored Kicks 4 The City supporters, volunteers and National Ambassadors that evening. If you would like to get involved or donate to their cause, visit here.
